Squad and transfers 2019/20

Also read: Dykes, Dylan. When people say a young guy who's barely played any games can play all over the park, it tends to suggest that it's probably because they're not very good in any one place.

Obviously we know nothing about this guy, but as a general rule it's not usually a sign that you've unearthed a star.

Aye was taking the piss...

However, going by the Gateshead fans on Twitter, he does seem like he has something about him.

Conference is a pretty decent standard these days and he had 29 appearances for them last season so fingers crossed he is a player!

Just couldn't be bothered quoting the article itself

We can only wait and see how they turn out, really. They might be good, they might not be.

No Harewood no party.

He'll be taking over the Arnold Clarke for the Inverclyde expansion of his AC13 Lifestyle business. He'll be selling customised luxury sports cars to his teammates as well as providing the VIP experience for the punters in hospitality.

He claims that their form over the last 10 games would've had them in the top 4 at least. Not only is that claim incorrect, the last 10 games also includes the split which had them playing bottom half teams only (they only played 2 top 6 sides in their last 10 games).

I'm not going to criticise him for talking up his team, but he's going way too far.

Put yourself in the position of a spoon burner though- they must cringe every time a reporter puts a microphone in front of him, and the journalists must love interviewing him, because the nonsense he spouts is bound to make a decent story. They don’t even have to work for it.

He’s like that idiot Morton fan from Foxbar who started the “Great Feeling at Cappielow” thread on Pie and Bovril- all he does is provide ammunition for his club’s detractors.

Hopefully we get a few more tried and tested players in. A couple of wildcards like yesterday's signings are fine and looking forward to seeing them play, but when they're being recommended to a manager who knows the quality of the Scottish championship but hasn't seen the players play, by an English scout who has seen the players play but doesn't know the quality of the Scottish championship then it can be a recipe for disaster if there's too many of them. We may slag the utter dross we watch most weeks but scouts down south working on behalf of Scottish clubs constsntly underestimate the quality of our league compared to the likes of league Two, conference, conference north/South etc

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Would agree with that.

I guess it depends what standard the conference actually is when you compare it to the Scottish Championship.

I would imagine they must be pretty similar, if not slightly better and the boy Salkeld played nearly 30 games at that level last season and seems to be well liked by the Gateshead fans so hopefully he fits in well.

It not like we are signing a Reece Hands who came with no league appearances behind him having played youth football down south. Would imagine the conference was a pretty good schooling for him.

Fully agree with this. We talk down our own leagues whilst talking up other ones, something which is a problem for Scottish football as a whole.

Stephen McGinn said something quite interesting about the influx of English diddies at St Mirren under Stubbs, but I can't remember now what it was. That's not a very good anecdote, but I'll be sure to post the quote if I can find it.

Tony Fitzpatrick is actually one of the good guys. He came up to my house one night to speak to my son and I done the hospitable thing and gave him coffee and a plate of soap. Had a good laugh about it.

Definitely a risk, certainly if we cobble together too many of them.

Glad we already have a couple of experienced heads so it's not wholesale.

Hopefully we unearth a few gems from that level like the likes of ICT and Motherwell have done rather than ending up 'doing a Falkirk'.

Definitely more intrigued to see how these players do than signings like Orsi.

Did notice that Salkeld played for Gateshead in a win over Salford City (Adam Rooney in opposition) last season... would suggest Gateshead were a fairly decent side.

THAT Morton team beat Celtic in 2013.

Your point is?

Lucas Akins scored the grand total of one goal (unsurprisingly, against ourselves) in 19 matches at Hamilton and Partick Thistle in the Scottish leagues: an absolute haddy of the highest order. Lucas Akins now regularly gets double figures in English League One with Burton Albion and spent two season in the Championship with them as well.

Clayton Donaldson was a flop at Hibs has since gone on to score 131 goals across English tiers 2, 3 and 4 - including six years at Championship level.

There is simply no reliable way of equating the quality of player or team between the two countries. Highly rated signings regularly flop while donkeys like the above can successfully reinvent their careers in a different style of football.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
