“McGhee needs some support, there’s no-one backing him up.

Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here’s Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control…”

“That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton’s supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.”

Ayrshireton, I haven't checked but was the 1-0 win v Clyde in 2008?
I thought it was 2009. Won league in 07, stayed up by skin of teeth 08 under Irons. Finished 6th or 7th in 09.

Just had a look.

2007-08 was the season we stayed up on the final day at Firhill.

2008-09 we started badly (and won at Hibs) and ended up 6th on goal difference (all the team from 5th - 8th had 47 points). Grady was signed in time for the Clyde game.

By 2009-10 Grady was the manager (and present at the 79 night). We stayed up on the final day, beating and relegating Ayr, putting Airdrie in the play-offs.

October 19th -

2013 - Cowdenbeath 5-1 Morton (Imrie)

Utter f**king mince.

2002 - Stirling Albion 2-0 Morton

1996 - Clydebank 2-1 Morton (Lilley)

1993 - Morton 2-4 St. Mirren (Alexander, Tolmie)

Probably the first time I'd seen a scarf thrown onto the park, just after we went 3-0 down with around half an hour to play. Disgraceful stuff - 4-2 flattered us. A fuse blew in the Cowshed lights during the first half, but the game went on regardless.

1991 - Morton 1-0 Hamilton (McArthur)

1985 - Morton 0-3 F*lk*rk

1977 - Morton 0-1 Queen of the South

1974 - Dundee 3-0 Morton

1968 - St. Mirren 2-1 Morton (Harper)

1963 - Morton 7-1 Berwick Rangers (McGraw 4, 1 pen, Campbell 2, Wilson)

October 20th -

2012 - Dunfermline 2-2 Morton (Campbell 2)

From 2-0 up......

2007 - Clyde 0-1 Morton (Weatherson)

Weatherson's goal

2001 - Morton 1-1 Alloa Athletic (Bottiglieri)

Alloa would be promoted whilst we would finish bottom.

1992 - Brechin City 1-2 Morton (Mathie, Tolmie)

League Challenge Cup. Another trip to Angus. We had to come from 1-0 down to continue our march to the final. We were half expecting a trip to Montrose in the next round - but got Killie away.

1990 - Forfar 5-1 Morton (Alexander)

Fans were shouting at Wilson to resign at this one.

October 20th -

1984 - Morton 2-3 Heart of Midlothian (Gillespie, og)

Jim Gillespie scores his first goal for Morton.

Dp8HY1yWwAAPO1P.jpg

1979 - Morton 1-0 Celtic (Thomson)

A game that few who were at it will forget. A very cleverly worked free-kick was enough to see off the league leaders and put us one point behind them. Celtic's first defeat of the season too.

Bobby Thomson is caught doing a "GIRFUY" to Murdo MacLeod after he skies the penalty, with Roy Baines telling him to ease off. There are full highlights on youtube too.

1973 - East Fife 0-1 Morton (McIlmoyle)

1962 - Cowdenbeath 2-0 Morton

October 21st -

2000 -  Morton 0-4 Falkirk

A heavy defeat with two sent off. Half of the clip concerns Andy Brownrigg demanding to see Mike Peden about not getting his wages.

1995 - Morton 4-0 St. Johnstone (Anderson, Hawke 3)

Hawke got his first hat-trick for Morton, the second a brilliant acute-angled looping header. McGraw said we eased off - we did nothing of the sort. The team fannied about for half an hour trying to get Derek McInnes a goal since it would likely be his last game at Scapa, before Hawke finished his hat trick late on.

DqBHgnlW4AAASff.jpg

1989 - Falkirk 1-0 Morton

1978 - Celtic 0-0 Morton

Bobby Thomson played 45 minutes without knowing his nose was broken.

1972 - St. Johnstone 3-1 Morton (Watson)

1970 - Morton 0-3 Wolverhampton Wanderers

2005 - Raith Rovers 1-2 Morton (A. Walker, Greacen)

Greacen's goal.

1994 - Berwick Rangers 2-1 Morton (Lilley pen)

Notable for two things - the debut of Janne Lindberg & Marko Rajamaki and the return of Derek McInnes after a lengthy injury. Otherwise crap.

1991 - Morton 2-3 Raith Rovers (Doak, Mathie)

League Challenge Cup Quarter Final

1988 - Morton 2-0 Ayr United (Turner pen, Alexander)

Ally MacLeod had been making noises about taking newly promoted Ayr to the Premier League. This was one of many reality checks for them.

1983 - Morton 1-0 Alloa Athletic (McNeil)

1977 - Morton 0-2 Kilmarnock

1966 - Morton 2-1 Albion Rovers (Mason, Harper pen)

1955 - Morton 5-2 Inverness Clachnacuddin (Kerr 2, fleming, Kelly, Bryceland)

“McGhee needs some support, there’s no-one backing him up.

Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here’s Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control…”

“That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton’s supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.”
