O’Ware stunned that Duffy was punted  Also refuses to rule out signing for St Mirren. I wouldn’t really have a problem if he did anyway.

Didn't know he made the team of the year again.

Love the big man, but he wasn't even our best centre back this season!

Surely he has something lined up, he wouldn't be stupid enough to pull a Monti, even if its just a verbal agreement with someone.

Oliver needs to play behind a centre forward to be effective, while Harkins is 33 and a makeshift central midfielder. I'm not saying that they should be immediately binned with Duffy's tombola, but the new manager should have the option on those two players. There's not much point in committing resources to them if the new manager won't play a setup that has a role for them.

Harkins the player of the season for me

It's not even remotely close to a Monti situation.

Lacking a bit of class in the touting himself pre Inverness game and then a week later whoring himself to them if they came calling. He has a decent reputation due to his goals last season but that behaviour sticks in my throat a bit.

It might stick in the throat for Morton fans but it won’t make any potential suitor think twice about offering him something.

I must be the only one that had absolutely no problem with O'Ware's announcement on Saturday.

OK for clubs to announce players that are leaving before the end of the season but not a club's longest serving player who maybe wanted a wee bit of a send off, chance to say goodbye/thank the fans rather than just disappearing over the summer?

Some players announce that sort of stuff weeks in advance. Tam's was just a few hours before the last game.

Don't think for one second he would've done it without Duffy knowing either.

Melodrama.

Of course its similar.

He has been offered a deal by us but has decided to leave in the hope of testing himself at a higher level. ( that's his official line)

Monti was offered a deal by us but decided to leave in the hope of getting something better but it went tits up for him after the Dundee move fell through.

How is that not remotely close??

POPULAR

I know that part of Duffy's modus operandi is to make the players feel comfortable in their environment, but the fact the players stating their bemusement really begins to point to a club with absolutely no real ambition. If the players believe that finishing 7th is acceptable then we need a manager who's going to give them a boot up the arse.

Yeah, that the players seem to be perplexed by this says a lot about the ingrained attitude in the squad.

I felt there was a telling slip from Duffy on the radio last night. Gary Naysmith was talking about how tight the league is and how anyone can beat anyone, usual clichés, and Duffy came in to mention beating Dundee United 3-0 as an example. He then said words to the effect of 'for Morton to beat Dundee United 3-0, to beat Dundee United at all, but especially to win 3-0 at Tannadice is unheard of.'

If that's a manager's attitude, that Dundee United are basically still a European Cup semi-final stature of team and little Morton can't possibly be expected to compete with them regardless of how bad they get on the pitch, is it any wonder the players downed tools and settled for fourth as something to be celebrated a year ago when we were in a position to comfortably finish second ahead of them?

The plucky little Morton attitude needs purged.

100%.

Statements should reflect the current state of play, ie Dundee Utd. are nowhere near as good as they once were. Anything else is pure deflection.

To think he thought he could fool the fans.

Bit part players, with ideas above their station thinking they can do better only to see their career slide like Monti and Stefan McCluskey versus a mainstay in the team, captaining the team, building a strong reputation, 2 team of the year inclusions and genuinely being linked with teams higher up the food chain.

Compared to the likes of Monti, Tam is practically guaranteed a decent move.

I wish him well but nothing is guaranteed and it is perfectly possible he won't get anything at a higher level than us.

Maybe if he just wants a change he will take another Championship club or alternatively try his luck down south playing at a lower level but earning more money.

Time will tell.

Indeed. I could understand and sympathise with the players coming out in support of Duffy regardless of him being sacked, but to be ‘baffled’ is an eye opening insight into our squad.
I didn’t listen to Sportsound last night, but that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. The previews for the likes of Dundee United, Inverness and Dunfermline all contained this type of rhetoric. If it was the case that Duffy was saying one thing to the media and another to the players then fine, that’s what all good managers do. Given what’s been said after his departure, I’m not convinced by that. I think Duffy undersold our squad and minimised their expectations both inside and outside of the dressing room, and that attitude has not benefited us in the slightest.

Fair dos but I'd say he's excelled in that position this year. One of the best players in the league for me.

Harkins has definitely been one of our best players but I can't agree with the latter; for me our midfield is still much weaker for the absence of Lindsay and was pretty average over the course of the season. We had a good defence, an average midfield and poor forwards. Throw in a clownshoes manager who lost the plot just before the Celtic game and we finish 7th.

Have the players/staff etc. picked up POTY awards from the travel clubs or did the events get panned after the last Saturday of the season turned into a shanfest?

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are
