Of course the manager has to accept some responsibility for the performance and result, but it is also only reasonable to take account of all of the circumstances.

We lost Denny before the kick off. After a slow start we came into the game and after we scored were on top. We then missed a penalty and also a very good chance when McLean didn't even hit the target from a very good position.

However up until then OK.

We then lost arguably our two most influential players in the space of a few minutes and bench is short on experience as we all know.

The manager didn't miss the penalty and Tidser has been by far our most consistent and influential player this season. Any criticism of him might be that he soldiered on with an injury when he probably should have gone off.

At that point I was thinking that the performance was a big improvement on last week.

Then we had the meltdown. We could go through the four goals one at a time and attribute blame, but each of them was a shocker and the defenders seemed to be competing with each other to see who could give away the most generous gift to Ayr.

I've watched Morton for over 40 years and have seen some very poor Morton teams, times when we couldn't buy a win (and of course lots of good times too) but I struggle in context to remember such a shocking 20 minutes and we were actually lucky it wasn't worse.

Ayr were on a high and we hit rock bottom.

The manager has a very thin squad which is not his fault and he has only been in post for a few weeks. He needs time and in terms of injuries, a wee bit of luck.

To talk about sacking him at this stage is frankly ridiculous.

Stopped reading at the first sentence.

Good post on the whole. As bad as yesterday was, Ayr have already been on the end of a worse beating than that against a team we drew with this season, and Ross County, a team we beat, did the same to Dundee Utd who we struggled with only 2 weeks ago.

As long as it doesn't happen again we need to just write it off and pick up points next week.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

Am I alone in thinking we weren’t even “ok” until the midfield disappeared? I thought we looked just as slow and lethargic as last week before the penalty, our equaliser coming a bit out of nowhere. We had more chances and a tiny bit more sustained pressure, but I really wasn’t impressed with us even before the demolition began.

Sick of watching opposition teams who are far more dynamic, always bursting forward in attack and who actually realise that the main way to win a football match is to actually look to take shots at goal while our team stands about, passes around aimlessly (or punts to nowhere) and the last thing on their mind seems to be trying to have a shot at goal.

Nope. Even after the Ross County win I remarked that I still didn't think we played all that well. I've yet to see a decent 90 minute performance this season.

We were pish in the first half, started ok in the second and were looking the team most likely to win until their second goal, then we totally chucked it.

Tidser shouldn’t even have been out for the 2nd half, never mind taking a penalty.

Whilst there's areas that can be improved, I don't think the squad is unworkable. To take the team that played so well against Ross County and get an absolute hammering off of Ayr is unforgivable.

Aye that was what I was getting at, but lazily never wrote!

The squad looked decent at the beginning of the season.

We could be without Millar and tidser for a wee while. He needs to work that one out.

Full back positions are a worry.

This. He hasn't inherited a bad squad. That can't be used as an excuse.

Id argue that he's inherited an unbalanced squad which is so one paced it's unreal. Id kill for someone like Aiden nesbitt right now to inject a bit of pace into the side and get the opposition moving. Said it after the game but Murdoch would have been a terrific option to have along side any of our current central midfielders as well. He strolled it.

Frank Ross as well, we need pace and creativity.

We look lethargic, as we have done for several seasons now.  We had no strikers yesterday.  Ayr looked faster than us, as did Dunfermline last week.  We depend heavily on Chis Millar who is a class act even at his age.  Without him and Tidser we are weak in midfield and have little or no creativity.

Yesterday's scoreline was a bit of a freak result, but overall Ayr simply looked better than us. Shankland looks half a yard faster than he was and half a Yardley lighter.  Murdoch should still be in blue and white hoops, and really stupid decision not to keep him on.

We need more striking options in January (get McHugh tae feck asap) and we need the defence to introduce themselves to each other before next week. Would also help if we didn't have about 20 players injured.

Need to give JJ and PH time to sort it out.  Houston will have some idea where to start.  Ridiculous to be calling for the manager to go after 3 games FFS.  However my optimism has evaporated.  No way we are finishing top 4 unless things improve rapidly - and I reckon Ayr will definitely be top four if yesterday is a true measure of their strength.
