McGraw was the fool who kept playing him when Wylie’s suspension was up.

Precisely. Between that and McInnes leaving we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory that season. I was too young to really understand it at the time but there were several unforced errors in that era.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that team could've pushed for European football had we retained it and added possibly 3 or 4 players to the starting eleven. The way we dismantled a strong St Johnstone team 4-0 at Cappielow in 1996 is still the best performance I've ever witnessed from a Morton team.

That strong St Johnstone side were nesr enough bottom.of the league when we beat them and sacked their manager straight after the game. They went on a crazy run with their new manager who I can't remember but am thinking sturrock.

You are right though in that 3 or 4 additions, which is the guts of a team, would've seen us hold our own in the premier. A goaly, a left back, a centre half and another striker since Hawke had stopped scoring soon after that st johnstone game.

But the same season they rattled us 6-1 on a s***ty Tuesday night in Perth. Would agree though. That 95/96 team would walk the current top tier.

Managed to find their results. They weren't as bad as I thought and they didn't sack their manager. They did go on a crazy run after we beat them though. From christmas I think they only lost to Dunfermline and then ourselves third last game.

Away from home against the top 4 we shipped 14 goals in the space of about 6 weeks.

The result of a pretty small squad and also tactical buffonery from mcgraw.

We got to where we did that season due to having three or four outstanding players (five if you count mcinnes)

This survey is flawed.

I really really want two votes.

I want to vote for Grady and Shimmin, both are  wage thieving charlatans!

Right, I'm going to register a new account from a different computer...

If anyone doesn't want to vote, please do mine by proxy.

IIRC Sturrock made major changes in their training regime - had the players in from 9-5, got beds put into their training ground so they could do morning and afternoon sessions with a snooze in between, stuff like that. The results spoke for themselves as their turnaround that season was nothin short of remarkable

Aye and they cantered the league the next season with us reverting to our natural.position of mid table

We also beat them towards the end of that season, (I think) when they were bang on form. 1-0 Dougie Johnstone?

That team was excellent. Collins, Mahood, Lindberg, McInnes, Hawke and Lilley were exceptional that season. John Anderson was very good. McArthur and Johnstone perhaps the weaker links - McArthur got an absolute roasting from Robbie Winters a couple of times - but both did fine.

Don't even think we managed mid-table - 8th, saved by a dismal Clydebank and East Fife.

Thomas O'Ware 2011-18

Some might say that it's harsh to include Thomas, given his longevity, goalscoring record and relative success at Morton. It's not. He's a dick. Surprising then that he didn't actually receive a vote, but with such a high calibre of candidate, competition is fierce. There were always tales of his arrogance and ego, but the straw that broke the camel's back for most was the announcement that he'd be going prior to the final game of last season. After a relatively poor season, it wasn't pleasant to hear that he'd been desperate to go the season before. Whether that affected his performances is doubtful, but he'll not be missed. Here's hoping he paid his £12 in yesterday.

While I agree that there are far worse than him with this fierce competition and in the grand scheme of things he pretty much just sits in the long list of players with an ego who were nowhere near as good as they thought they were, I think you're being far too kind to O'Ware there. I don't think it's doubtful that it affected his performance at all - I think it's an absolute certainty that it did.

He didn't try a leg all season because he genuinely believed that he was considerably better than all the players around him and could get away with strolling through games, which also explains his Stuart McCluskey style tantrums with the rest of the defence after his own mistakes directly resulted in goals. He didn't view it as a deflection tactic, he genuinely believed he was blameless because how could a player so far above the level of the rest of the defence be responsible for that defence losing terrible goals? He was the weak link but has such an inflated opinion of himself that he believed he was holding the defence together without even trying.

His attitude was an absolute disgrace and he admitted as much himself with his interview after leaving. The way he conducted himself over the season is a far bigger issue for me than announcing his departure in the media without telling the club, which is of course snaky behaviour itself.

Here here. Great post. Nail on head.

That night was a disaster. Cormack senior in charge and we shipped an 11 minute hat trick to O'Boyle. Lindberg scored a beauty to make it 3-1 and we took charge - only for the whole midfield to get subbed and they picked us off again.

IIRC Sturrock made major changes in their training regime - had the players in from 9-5, got beds put into their training ground so they could do morning and afternoon sessions with a snooze in between, stuff like that. He had them down mines and up mountains etc. Won the league 20 points clear of Airdrie.

In fairness we ended up with 45 points - 20 clear of Clydebank. Finishing behind Stirling Albion was pretty criminal, though.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

I remember that game well - dougie got the winner and also cleared one off the line

Did winters play at Dundee united at the time? I remember him giving us a right doing.

Aye, in my defence, my summation of O'ware was a bit rushed after I made an arse of attaching the photo of him and had to return to my auto-saved content, and was trying to get the post finished so I could get ready for a nightshift last night.

My original final line was along the lines of "I'ts well known that Thomas is a Celtic and Liverpool fan. Perhaps that explains why it's always someone else's fault".

There was no point in changing it by the time I'd remembered that wee quip though and only returned to change a couple of spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and a photo of John McCormack which was to be replaced by one of Scott Bannerman.

There was absolutely every point in bringing up the jibe about Celtic. It speaks volumes

TIME FOR CHANGE!
