Not the perfect goalkeeper but always liked him and he pulled off some of the best saves I've ever seen at this level.

I'd be happy to keep him but I'm also excited at what will hopefully be an almost clean slate next season.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Been a brilliant keeper for us and wouldn't be surprised to see him up against us next season.

Curious to see who we bring in. With budget cuts etc, I would be surprised if we could attract a better keeper than Gats, time will tell i guess.

All the best to him. Been our longest serving player and pulled off some world class saves in his time here.

Bold move for Hopkin to get rid of Gats and still have the Geordie giant at the club. Unless if the guy is on peanuts. Can imagine it’ll be him and a loan player as our 2 GK’s for next season.

Hopefully we might end up with a squad update tonight if Hopkin has decided who he wants rid of.

Sorry to see Derek go.  Pulled off some great saves in his time with us, particularly that one at Palmerston from Dobbie - although WTF was he doing so far out his goal in the first place?  I hope Hoppy has someone decent lined up and not a downgrade on Derek.

Nothing even close to 'bold', not renewing the contract of our 2nd choice goalkeeper from the last 5 months, and still having the Geordie is largely irrelevant and not a choice seeing as he is contracted anyway.

Most credit should go to Gaston for remaining at the club through the 13/14 debacle with Caraux in goal and regaining his place to clinch La Decima. That we brought in four different senior goalkeepers to the club over the past three seasons points to this being a correct decision though; he hasn't become the authoritative presence that our defence needs, so an upgrade is definitely required if we're serious about pushing upwards again.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Gaston is a decent Championship goalkeeper, over the piece he was a good signing and hopefully we can upgrade on him. He's pulled off some of the best saves I've ever seen in the flesh and was every bit as important in the League One campaign as Declan McManus.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

Agree with that. It's maybe a good time for a change, but it's a shame to see him go. He's been one of the most likeable players we've had in ages and has been a good servant for the club.

Saw him kicking about with Kevin Harper on Twitter the other night- I wonder if a move back to Albion Rovers and part time football is maybe on the agenda for him?

If he’s looking to stay full time for another year, Falkirk could do much worse than sign him. I suspect Raymond isn’t so much of a fan after dropping him for Scully last year and they’re arrogant enough to think that they can do better, in spite of their humble status.

Hope he doesn’t end up at those peasants, of course.

What's source of Gaston leaving? Was it his decision or the clubs?

Gaston announced it on Twitter. Hopkin was due to meet the squad today to discuss their futures so I'd imagine he's been told he's no longer needed here.

Well that evidently hasn't happened.

Not necessarily, he could have told Hoppy HE wasn’t interested in signing with Morton again and that it was time for him to move on and just hasn’t made his PSC public yet.

All speculation and conjecture anyway, all that matters is that he’s not going to be playing for us next season.
