That's not much of a surprise though - presumably most managers worth appointing would want a better deal than part of a season with someone else's squad.

But Duffy would still

Be getting paid or on the payroll which defeats why we never have McKinnon a two year deal.

There's no credible evidence that the board did any such thing regarding the squad though, as Johannson is quite simply spinning any and every story he can find to cover for his inevitable punting.

A case in point being his other, total ****ing whopper today, in which he bemoans the fact that his hands are already tied in terms of identifying targets for the summer because some players were apparently already under contract until the end of next season before he arrived at the club. Without going through the squad player by player, I'd be astonished if more than a couple of first team players actually fall into that category. But TTGJ already needs a ready-made excuse to justify his expected failure next season and so here we are.

He is a total charlatan. Get him in the sea.

But since you don't actually have a clue about the players' contracts, with the possible exception of McAlister, you are spinning a concocted story to suit your agenda.

There was something about McAlister having an extension clause for x amount of appearances. How many other players had that? I doubt it's that many.

The paper said there were a few other players with it.

I’d say Denny likely had it, Buchanan and Millar?

The only player contracted for next season, is Pearson.

Obviously McAlister mentioned the extension clause that he has reached the trigger for and the article on that said several others have it and are close to reaching it.

Not sure how they work or whether we have to offer like for like.

Automatically offer them a new year. On minimal wages.

I know that Denny Johnstone doesn’t have a deal for next season because his contract length was stated when he signed for the club in the summer. The same thing applies to every other player in the squad, so it’s simply a case of compiling that material as opposed to digging out the Rosetta Stone as you bizarrely seem to think is required to decipher our transfer business here.

Given that few two year deals were announced last summer and absolutely no three year ones were handed out by Duffy, we can start with as much of a blank slate this summer as in 2013-14 if he chooses to do so.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

The tele has twice reported that it is not the case. The first saying we had no players contracted to next season:

https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/sport/17392026.mcalister-triggers-contract-clause-to-new-morton-deal/

The second, since Pearson signed, saying he is the only one contracted for next season:

If he didn’t want these players to remain at the club then he didn’t have to play them every week to trigger those extensions; it’s not as if McAlister for example has been an essential central midfield option in the squad.

And of course the idea that players would actually choose to hang around for six, never mind eighteen months if an incompetent Finnish clown wanted to play Dylan Dykes ahead of them and get shot of them is preposterous. Just like most of his unceasing parade of excuses right now.

Oh and you can chisel into granite the opposite, TTGJ excuse that he ‘didn’t have enough players left over from last season’ and ‘had to build his team from scratch again’ if he lasts long enough to get papped out of the League Cup after two group matches.

But the Tele's article while it may be factually correct at the time of reporting:

that we only have one player actually contacted for next season.

also reports :

that we have a number of players whose contracts entitle them to a further season if they reach a certain number of appearances this season.

We don't know the number or the names but we do know that one is Jim McAlister and from what he has already said one might reasonably surmise that he intends to trigger that clause and be here for another season.

He also said:

“I’ll be entitled to another year’s contract which will be good for my security going forward and we just need to see what the club come up with.”

Therefore the terms of said extension do not seem to be set in stone, nor will they necessarily be acceptable to the players in question.

Regardless, if Johansson has claimed he is being hamstrung by players already contracted, it seems to be untrue.

TBH it's pretty Morton to have an extension clause worth an unspecified amount. Another way of phrasing that would be 'not having an extension clause.'

Who ****ing knows what's happening.

It's possible that it does specify an amount, but it's optional for the player for accept the extension or not.

So if the player meets the criteria for the clause to trigger then he's at least guaranteed the security of a contract for next year, but still has scope to seek a better offer from Morton or elsewhere.

Look at her riding pillions on Davy’s sea-bike, carrying an apoplectic macaw in a silver hoop. Oh, Morton, let’s go there this winter!  Or learning the Japanese chinchona from that Kobe group, in a dress that looks like a blowtorch rising from one knee, and which should sell big in Texas. Morton, is that real fire? Happy, happy little girl!

The point was, McAlister said it would be interesting to see what offer Morton come up with, ie, not set in stone.

Of course it's optional for the player.

I'd be running a mile from Morton atm if i was a player with any ability. Much like i suspect Tidser will do in the summer.

But that will finally free up Johannson to sign more jobbers because Reaghan Tumilty got on the phone and offered them a gig, so it's a win-win really.

You just know if he gets a full window we'll end up with a team of Chris Smiths and Graham Dales, the dregs of the Rangers academy.
