Squad and transfers 2019/20

Livingston are not a bigger club than ourselves champ.

Can we really bang that drum now?

They have won a national trophy, played in Europe, had a few seasons in the Premier league, won the Championship, won the Challenge Cup all within the last 20 years...

What have we done? Square root of feck all.

30 years since we last played top flight football. Many on this board, including myself have never seen us play in the top tier!

We have more fans than them, but that's about it and even then, it's not by much these days! They have better facilities and many would argue a much better stadium( even if we prefer Cappielow)

Of course we have a greater history but so do East Fife! How far back can we cling onto?

Its feckin depressing but the reality is, we are a very average second tier club these days.

We're a bigger club than nobody in the Premiership while we languish outside it for 30 years with 2000 or less home fans.

Can start crowing again once the football club gets its finger out and proves it.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

Whatever.

Tumilty looks like he's been doing a bit of lifting over the summer, looks a fair bit bigger than last season. Hope he kicks on and improves now.

The vast majority of these claims to being a ‘big team’ were made under a ridiculously unsustainable, financially doped version in the early 2000s. You’d be as well claiming Gretna were a bigger club by the same measurement. Since that period they’ve finished more often than not beneath Morton and register a lower turnover whenever in the same division. Slithering briefly into a higher division right now doesn’t actually change that fundamental fact, in the same way that it didn’t make Dumbarton or Brechin a genuine, second tier level of club just because they played at this level for a wee while.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

What do we think Hopkin will do with McAlister once our CB's are up to speed as i don't think he has what it takes to cover RB/LB effectively and we have quite a lot of competition in the midfield area.

I don't see where he fits in, however as he is the club captain i imagine Hopkin will need to find somewhere for him to play.

Im making perfect sense, your just not keeping up.

I think he'll be a CB all season.

I don't think Hopkin's style would be to play anyone whom he didn't think worthy of a place. Jim McAlister is unlikely to feature in every game for a variety of reasons so there will be match day captains when required.

Not really a big issue.

Birthday caird pish - not least given that 'Cameron Blues' managed to get on the park at the weekend.

So your view is that Hopkin put Blues on with a view to weakening the team and reducing our chances of success?

Or do you have some equally bizarre explanation?

My view is that Hopkin will do whatever is expedient at that time - such as in this case, fielding a ringer who almost certainly doesn't merit a place in the team because a lack of squad depth forced his hand. And Hopkin probably would factor in a player's experience and status because that's just as important to managing a squad as simply picking your best eleven players for each match.

Is the opinion of 'Cameron Blues' based on anything other than the 20 mins max he had on the pitch on Saturday?

Twenty minutes is more than enough to tell whether a footballer is totally dung or not: David Irons was, as usual, 100% correct on that matter. But in this case there's also his ghost like performance 'anchoring' Berwick's midfield during their 0-7, two leg evisceration by Cove Rangers in May, and a completely dung CV as well.

It's not really a tough call at all tbh.
