More than happy with this signing. Considering the offer was reduced enough for him to have to consider what was best for his family and the fact Thomson isn't staying to take up another striker space in the squad then this is excellent news.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

McHugh was marginally the least worst of a brutal lot over the past two seasons; even with reduced terms I'd rather we had a full clearout of the forward area of the pitch instead tbh.

A significant improvement will be needed under the new management team.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

As long as we bring in a couple of better strikers to compete with him, happy for McHugh to be part of the squad.

Thought he put in some pretty decent performances despite the ultra defensive set up we continually deployed and did more work outside of the box than he did the previous season.

10 goals not a bad return considering how bad we were and hopefully Hoppy can get more out of him. If we get service to him, he will score goals, we just never created enough chances this season.

You asked why people are saying what they are saying. I merely answered why people are saying what they are saying.

And I’m merely saying I’m surprised that people are thinking this way, for the following reasons, which I believe are factual:

  1. At least 3 posters have correctly suggested that McAlister can play WB, CB & CM
  2. David Hopkin has just said Jacobs can also play the above 3 positions
  3. Hopkin (who’ll build the squad and pick the team) says we need cover in midfield
  4. We only have one signed player (Millar) who plays exclusively in centre mid
  5. We only have one player (Tidser) still to respond who plays exclusively in centre mid
  6. We have 4 players still to respond who play only one position, none of which are centre mid (Buchanan, Tumilty, Strapp and McHugh)
  7. Hopkin says he’s awaiting all the players’ responses before he brings in any more players

Edit to add: McHugh's just signed.

Point no. 4 in that shan epistle is completely wrong anyway, as Dykes and Lyon are also first team* central midfielders.

You are getting way too caught up on a complete non issue.

Relax.

I thought McHugh looked better on the rare occasions he had a half decent strike partner to knock the ball on. First Ross County game for example, Denny set up the winner with a header. Not so good as a lone striker.

I’m alright with McHugh staying, provided he isn’t first choice of course, which the reduced wage seems to confirm. Bit surprised he took it actually.

Genuinely thought he would rock up at Falkirk.

Not overly surprised. It's going to be a fuck of a market for mediocre full time pros this summer, many will struggle to get the deals they are used to or think they are worse.

Maybe he put the feelers out and got told the same so took what he could get early.

Will be very interesting to see what the likes of Gary Oliver manage to get, or more likely, what they might end up having to resort to.

Cheers, he tweeted after that it’s Morecambe not Morton that are signing Stockton.

Thank god, guy is a donkey. One of my closest mates supports Tranmere and says he is hopeless.

Fleming has played over 200 games for Morecambe and has been there 9 years, would be surprised if we were buying a player like that
