WTF is Scully doing at the second goal?  He disappears out of view on the left and hasn't got back anywhere near the goal when the botched clearance comes in from the right.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

Scully came out for balls at least 3 or 4 times and either never got near them or messed it up. Contributed largely to the second goal and at the first he was slow coming out.

The decision to play Scully deserves more scrutiny, not least because he is horse but also the injury situation.

Alloa fans on P&b who were behind him commented they saw that he was moving awkwardly right from the start.

Not quite at Raith Rovers levels of incompetence playing Ryan Stevenson during a goalkeeper injury crisis, but the decision to play a clearly injured Scully (added to the fact that JJ is tactically vacant) certainly contributed to forfeiting the points.

BBC sport have a link to the own goal on their UK wide Sports Page now, asking if is the most calamitous own goal ever.

Fair play to Morton, they continue to find new ways to cause embarrassment. In the last few years we’ve had to endure losing ten goals against Hamilton, getting put out the cup by a non-league team, seeing an outfield player save a penalty against us and now that shambles of a goal on Saturday.

Aye, it’s a sh*te state of affairs. You often see fans of other clubs talking about “typical Thistle, typical Queens, typical Dundee” and the like. But really, does any club stumble from embarrassment to embarrassment quite like we do, and over such a sustained period? We’ve got a genuine claim to be the most laughable club in the UK for some of the ammunition we’ve given our detractors.

Sick of seeing Morton fans saying how funny it is too, notably on P&B. It’s not- it’s the latest in a long line of humiliations we’ve had to endure and it’s a wonder so many of us stick it out. Once again we’re a laughing stock to the extent that neutrals and fans of other clubs are questioning our squad’s integrity and suggesting they had Alloa on the coupon.

Maybe I take football to seriously, but it’s downright humiliating. Christ, being a Morton fan you become hardened to defeat and disappointment, but ffs, how many humiliating point-and-laugh moments do we have to endure, or is this just the hand that life’s dealt us?

You can’t throw the 2004 betting scandal, the subsequent years of failure to win promotion, the disgusting 2014 season, 10-2, Spartans and nationwide, possible worldwide humiliation with the power of social media at fans and continue to expect them to cut you some slack.

Supporting Morton’s grim, and I can’t see any way that’ll ever change. The only positive is that we’re not Rangers.

What was the penalty? I don't remember that.

You are missing one vital point - Morton get your hopes up every 5 years or so before dealing their bitter disappointment.

If you look back over the last 20 years, pretty much every single one has been s***e to mediocre at best all because we keep insisting on "giving a manager time". Why do we keep insisting on this? Is there any instances at all where a manager who has quite emphatically proven himself to be incapable of preparing a team or having any grasp of tactics all of a sudden coming good?

Look at the debacle of the Airdrie season. Did we punt McCormack in a bid to rescue things? Nope. Did we get rid of him in the summer? Nope, he was allowed to **** up the next season too, following which we had McInally who proceeded to make a **** of things and even when he tried to leave he wasn't allowed to.  Duffy proved that he was never taking us forward and despite the disgraceful finish to the season before last, was allowed another shot and finished an insipid 7th.

It's like Groundhog Day. We keep persisting with some proven failure or mediocrity at best rather than cutting our losses and saying enough's enough and so the cycle of "we'll see next season" continues on and on.

Johansson's a dud and insisting that "he needs time" and "more players" when he's already failing to properly utilise the best two midfielders in the league is just perpetuating Morton's status as a diddy club.

Despite gormlessly hanging onto managers long after they were outed as complete duds (Jim McInally being the prime example of this), we've still managed to go through fifteen managers since McGraw left. Rarely has there been a better case for having a Director of Football to oversee consistent transfer policy and recruitment (although fuck knows who the club would pick for that role) and having a head coach whose job is to improve players in training and deliver results on the park.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

With Dundee Utd going that direction now and Dunfermline (although McNamara is a Morton-esque appointment) hopefully we won't be far behind.

Getting the DoF appointment right is even more important than getting the right manager (or "head coach.")

I can unfortunately see Hawke picking some slimy agent guy who promises him some magic beans.

I could see Hawke appointing himself

One of the greatest shames is that Morton have managed to cause so much apathy that any possibility of fan ownership is absolutely pie in the sky.

Fan ownership would be f*cking frightening; the sort of dobbers who’d be given influence would be an even darker stain on the club.

Not forgetting the reasons they’d sack a manager; not limited to being slightly dull in a pre-match interview.

Nope.
