Thought McAllister was ok yesterday too, Mcrories double save in the 1st half kept us in it. O'Connell looks a prospect but he should just go for goal himself rather than look for a pass to Mchugh. Don't know why folk are getting on Kilties back straight away he looks better than anything else we've had in that position this season.

Mcalister was much better than Tumilty. It clearly wasn't a natural position for him and at times it showed but he defended okay for the most part and tried to get forward when possible.

Still absolutely infuriates me how he still stands off attackers and does that weird stance when someone is taking him on one on one, which literally never works and allows them all the time in the world to make a decision.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

Honestly, I feel like I’m watching a different sport seeing people say McAlister was decent. I mean you can caveat it saying you can’t really blame him because it’s obviously not his position and he hasn’t picked himself there, but it was just so obviously the performance of a player who blatantly isn’t a full back and has no clue how to play there.

The standing off attackers and inviting a cross isn’t a choice he’s making, he’s doing it because he doesn’t have a clue how to play that position and therefore has no understanding of positional sense when an attacker is trying to create space to cross so doesn’t know how to prevent it. Absolutely not his fault, but I spent most of the game thinking Tumilty’s crap but at least he’s actually a full back: if he’d allowed that much space for a winger in a game he’d be getting absolute pelters.

Yep, he was poor but he shouldn't have been out there.

Also, I continue to be underwhelmed by Iredale. He's never in the right place, he makes the wrong choice, he mistimes his runs and he gives the ball away a lot and/or regularly puts it out the park. He just about does a job but he's not any kind of long-term answer as a full-back. Given that he was signed as a defender it's surely worth trying him in the middle.

I was very impressed by McRorie.  He commanded his area well, kicked well, and was quick to come out to block when needed.  Maybe too soon to judge when he hardly had a proper shot to deal with, but he just looked like a huge step up from the keepers we usually have.  Reminded me of Joe Hart for some reason, so maybe we can expect a few howlers in the coming weeks.  Looks like just what we need when our defence is currently so mediocre.  I have heard some folk say he is a possible future Scotland international and I didn't see anything to suggest that that was out the question - though if that is the case, what the hell is he doing at Morton?

O'Connell looked decent.  He should have shot across the keeper near the end rather than trying to find McHugh but he did look like a huge improvement on the anonymous Telfer (no idea what people see in him - he's just not very good and looks slower than me).

I thought Dallas was a striker, so why not play him as such?  We are desperate for goals and to persist with McHugh as a de facto lone striker seems like a poor strategy.  also the hoof the ball up the park tactic is dreadful.  Oh for a cultured playmaker like Michael Tidser playing in behind the forwards and pinging through balls or even shooting.  When did any Morton player last have a shot on target?  Before Christmas?  If Tidser recovers from whatever is wrong with him and still isn't in the team, and playing further forward, JJ should be hounded.

Ayr look fairly decent without being great, probably too reliant on Shankland.  There for the taking in the second half but we rarely looked like doing anything with our anti-football tactics.  JJ appears to be clueless - what a dreadful appointment he has turned out to be.  With our new keeper and the newcomers, especially O'Connell if used wisely, we probably have enough to grind out sufficient points (even draws against the teams below us would help a lot as it stops them gaining on us), but we really are not where we should be.  Hard to believe we're only 3 points off 4th place.  The Morton thing to do would be to win the next 2 games against Inverness and Queens and go 4th. Tales of the unexpected.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

3 home clean sheets in a row in contrast to no shots on target from open play in any of those games suggests that the back 4 is not what needs more change.

Creativity and composure in the final third is what we totally lack.

I would replace Telfer with Tidser and Dallas with O'Connell but keep the back 4.

Ayr has a goal disallowed from a set piece that we failed to defend even remotely well enough and hit the post towards the end. So while recording a clean sheet is welcome there remains plenty of room for improvement at the back. And we should start by ditching that carthorse Buchanan.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

McAlister was far better at right back than any performance he's put in at midfield and should stay there at the expense of Tumilty until we find better. One of our better performers yesterday without being great. I just wish JJ would do the obvious by playing 2 wingers put wide in O'Connell and Kiltie and play Dallas in his natural position of centre forward. Tisder in behind and the back 4 as it was yesterday with the possible omission of either centre half for Kilday. Then take it from there.

If the situation is true about Tidser being offered a substantial rise in money to go to Falkirk then there's not a lot Morton can do given he will be one of the players at Cappielow who are on the top wages. Your not going to break the bank for one player and upset the rest.

That being so why would JJ play a player who no longer wants to play for us next season and not try and bed in some new players in the hope of finding a player who does want to play for us and fits into whatever system he wants to play. I know it's a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face. But maybe next season young Rees Lyon can make the step up as he has potential although a bit of a light weight but that can be sorted in the gym..

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Tidser is a professional and we badly need him. So long as we're paying his wages he should be first name on the team sheet. If JJ had no intention of using him again he should've been flogged in January. Jordon Jones still plays for Killie despite signing for Rangers. I've no doubt Tidser would still perform to his usual high standards if called upon.

I have no doubt either but the manager obviously has other ideas.

Anything I've heard from Killie fans suggests that Kiltie is pretty much hopeless as a winger, and should always be played as the number 10 (and there was little evidence yesterday to suggest that he's any good on the wing). Dallas had a couple of goes as the centre forward yesterday but struggled to make anything stick. I think I'd rather have him on the bench (or maybe he'd do better with Kiltie behind him). O'Connell looked good, but as a pacy player coming off the bench he's always going to have an advantage. I'm not sure the solution is straight forward.
