Fan Ownership - Morton Club Together

Maybe people just aren't checking the website every day. Hardly a sign of some shadowy agenda that folk aren't having on the MCT website's every jpeg.

Also not exactly a sign of some sort of agenda that people change their minds.

People who aren't reading what the MCT put out shouldn't be opining on it at all. By all means they can pledge themselves, but bigging it up to other people while not doing one's homework is irresponsible.

Too many mixed messages appearing now. The first part of the Q&A page says:

Greenock Morton Football Club – founded in 1874 and one of the oldest professional clubs in the world – faces real and immediate financial threats to its existence. A solution must be found quickly

Yet the latest update says:

Q. Why the rush MCT?i

A. Our feeling is that it is "better to be proactive at a time of challenge than reactive at a time of crisis."

This is exactly the point we have been making, 25% the. 15% and a lot of other contradictions.

We are a PR disaster of a club so to get a new trust off to such a horrible start is very disappointing.

If you have nothing better to do than check the MCT page every day, more power to you.

How remiss of me to keep an eye on a would-be club shareholder. I'll be sure going forward to just blithely assume everything's fine, and go about the internet like a creepy wee enforcer getting people to pledge for it. Would that be more to your liking?

They addressed that point today. Long story short, it's 15% as a starting point, but with more investigation to come. I'm personally happy with the answer they gave, but will write up my thoughts in a few hours.

The guy has all but said Crawford Rae could be responsible for Morton potentially

Going out of business but now there is no rush.

25% to 15%.

There were a few others I seen.

We can’t afford to have these problems as communication has been piss poor from the club and this is what we need to avoid.

As it happens I wasn't referring to you in my first post about it, but if you want to take it that way then wire in.

Its called freedom of speech my friend.

Now run along and save the world.

You don't have freedom of speech, your groomer tells you what to think and say. Even the scabby greyhound has got more to say for itself than you do.

Regarding the change in percentage, while it wasn't done very elegantly, today's update is positive:

The asking price Morton want is 400k for 15%.

MCT have agreed to that as a starting point for fundraising.

However, they are going to get the club independently valued once they get (close to) the pledge target.

They won't part with any pledge money unless the valuation for the shares is "supportable."

Personally, I'm happy with that. They're taking it as a good-faith valuation from GC but will do their own due diligence and won't hand over any money until it's supported by MCT. What "support" means isn't clear yet. Is it the support of the MCT organizers, or the membership at large? If the latter, is it based on amount of pledge, or one-man-one-vote*? Not massively important to answer that at this stage, and they still have several weeks to iron that out, so I'm not hugely worried. For me, the big question was, are they just going to blindly give up to whatever demands GC make, and the answer to that is no. So, I'm feeling somewhat reassured.

I still think they have the vast majority of their work ahead of them, but that answer shows that they're giving this the proper thought that was lacking previously. So, this is very good news from my perspective.

Hi everyone - hopefully this works as I've never been on this or any other Forum in my puff!

Wanted to put something on here as there's been a lot of stuff posted and really this is just to say hello, thanks for the positive reaction and to set out some things that are also on the MCT website for everyone to see (which we know has had issues)

The issue regarding the Forum/our lack of presence is primarily that we've not had the resources, up until now, to engage fully in it. I've been getting by on 5 hours sleep for the past fortnight or so as we energetically develop the MCT proposition and we have other volunteers who have been working behind the scenes big time too. This interaction will improve as we grow the team (see below)

I fully respect every single Morton supporter and every single view and if I had the time I'd be on the Forum daily, and knowing me I'd be on it all day!

We've had a few people monitoring the Forum and where significant issues come up, we've been updating our shoestring website accordingly, so that both Forum users and the wider community can see our responses

Right now, the following is my message, on behalf of Morton Club Together, to the Forum.

Now that we have launched and can see the fabulous response, MCT is developing our Leadership Team, and we'll announce our "signings" as they are brought in over the coming days (new one on @TonClubTogether tonight) - all of the Leadership Team have specific volunteer (ie none of us are paid) roles, all are qualified and experienced appropriate to their role, all are MCT pledgers and all share the MCT vision - we expect pledgers and potential pledgers to be very impressed with the MCT Leadership Team and would ask that people are patient (we know, like you, we are excited and passionate! We need to do this right tho)

We are currently focussing on:

Stepping up our marketing (Facebook to follow, interesting stories to feature in press re some of our pledgers, I'm on Off The Ball on Saturday from Noon (shitting myself!), face to face Q and A sessions being planned across Inverclyde, we expect Morton to make some positive moves in the press and Match Programme v Dundee Utd showing support for MCT, improving our website including taking MCT pledgers, who have volunteered to help with this, up on their offers! and more to follow....

Developing the structure, governance and legal status of MCT itself to facilitate the purchase of shares, to ensure we best engage with our pledgers and eventually the MCT GMFC shareholder group, and perhaps delivering future projects to help improve the profitability of GMFC

Developing the options to deliver the share purchase by looking at other UK clubs and the Bundesliga - the proffered option(s) will be run past pledgers and GMFC in order to find the best model to best suit us all and our aims

We can absolutely confirm that every penny of the MCT investment will be focussed on the Morton first team for the next two seasons. Golden Casket will not take a penny out and will effectively "give" MCT shareholders their shares to the value of the MCT investment.

The stated 15% for £400,000 is from GMFC. We say 25% community ownership as 10% of Morton is already owned by the community, outside of Golden Casket. Of course MCT will have an independent valuation done and will also have full access to GMFC financial plans and documents etc. for the accountants and lawyers on the MCT Leadership Team to analyse and advise pledgers on. All details of the deal will be finalised and explained in writing for and with potential MCT investors. Of course only pledgers will have access to this information, so they can choose if they want to turn their pledge into shares or not. We are appointing leading accountants, lawyers and share experts to the MCT Leadership Team. You will not be disappointed. Watch this space

Pledging will continue for a period of 6 weeks as stated, during which we will all work hard together to get the project fully developed and ready to make our investment - I am personally thanking every pledger and am tallying them up tonight and tomorrow - we'll announce the running total ASAP and soon, I'll be passing this task over to one of our accountants (can't wait, hate spreadsheets!)

Per our Twitter account today, the first potentially major investor has approached me, and I am taking time out of my day job to have a first meeting with them tomorrow. Of course under GDPR, we can't share details of any pledgers or interested parties without their express written permission. I always imagined that when MCT put the campaign out there, we'd get major interest from far and wide. This is happening and we'll do all we can on your behalf to optimise the outcomes from it!

This is an extremely ambitious project and we are confident it will be a success. Your support is valuable and very very welcome

We want to thank all interested parties for their interest, feedback, pledges to date and patience and would encourage anyone who wishes to help or ask questions to contact us at

enquiries@mortonclubtogether.com

And please, if you are thinking of pledging, go ahead and do so, without obligation at

pledges@mortonclubtogether.com

It's crucial if you want to be involved, or think you probably do, that you pledge! If you don't like the final "deal" that's being developed (we think you will) you can always withdraw your pledge

Just tell us your monthly or lump sum pledge value and your phone number and we'll be in touch with you

I'll be at the game on Saturday sitting in my usual spot of the main stand, nearest Sinclair Street - if you want, please do come and say hello!

Thanks again and Mon Eh Ton!!!

Graham,

Thank you for taking the time to post on this messageboard, and welcome to the forum. Hopefully we will hear more from you as time goes on and as your initiative progresses through time.

Like many others, I could see that you have good intentions and you want to see the club do well however your proposal needs a fair bit of work before I could even consider commitment to it, and you may even agree that with the benefit of hindsight this idea could have developed and presented better before deciding to go public with it.

Below is an idea where, if it came to fruition, individual supporters could invest in the club and have a greater degree of autonomy over their stake in the club:

I think a more sensible option would be for the club itself to sell off shares in the club to individual investors via a share offer using the crowdfunding model, and for the individual investors who choose to invest in the club to have a shareholders/supporters group to whom they could proxy their voting rights and who would act in their interests, and work also with existing minority shareholders and groups.

That way the individual supporters/investors could deal direct with the club at the point of share acquisition, retain an element of control over their investment and if necessary, sell their shareholdings at a later date for whatever reason, rather than choose to subscribe to what is effectively a donation towards another 'fans group'.

The crowdfunding for equity model has proven really popular in recent times, one of the most notable successes has been the Brewdog beer company from Aberdeenshire who have used it to take a small independent brewery to become a mainstream brand.

Edit to add: over to you Crawford. I'm in if you do.

I welcome your thoughts.

Just a thought by the way, but if the aim is to put all the money into the footballing side, the first step should be to demand the removal of Johansson before a penny is handed over. There's little point chucking £400k in to let that balloon squander it.
