Car Insurance

Hubby has a car and is fully comp with daughter named driver on policy. Daughter has a car and is fully comp with her dad as named driver.

Another member of family has a car and is fully comp, not named on either policy. Can he drive their cars and be covered although he is not named?

Isn't it a lovely day.....

Normally with a fully comp policy you may drive any car with the permission of the owner. It should say that on the policy.

If your Husband and Daughter live at the same address it would be cheaper to get a 2 car policy.

Normally, but only on a third party basis, BUT, check the wording on the policy, some company's, particularly online company's, do not include this option to make the policy cheaper.

More and more people being caught out with this and ending up at court as a result, ignorance of the law is not a defence, the onus is on the driver to make sure he/she is covered

Your policy will state who is covered. It's rare nowadays for anyone to insure their car for any driver. What you can generally do if you have your own insurance is drive a car owned by someone else and your insurance will cover you for that, but only third party so if you damaged the other car it would not be covered.

There are exclusions for drivers with points etc. Should be in the small print. Generally it is not advisable to drive somebody else's car without being covered by the owner's policy due to the risk of a massive bill in the event of an accident.

So need to read the small print, but if you are its only 3rd party cover you have?

Worth remembering that third party is really s***, get into a smash the polis will get the car towed away and you will be billed for the recovery and possibly storage.

If the chap's not too young putting him onto the other policies may not be very costly.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."
