Ross County vs Morton

Denny Johnstone is still comfortably our best striker and Chris Millar is one of if not the best player in the squad. McAlister I'm not sure about but the other 2 are not part of our problem other than Johnstone not being fit so far.

Peter Weatherson is the greatest player since Ritchie, and should be assigned 'chairman for life'

The signing of Johnstone.

Laszlo publicly slated McKinnon for signing unfit players with injury problems. McKinnon comes out and completely refutes this saying all players did have medicals from United medical staff.

Bearing in mind what we know now about McKinnon, was Johnstone signed without a medical, ie in full knowledge of the severity of his injury?

I think JJ needs a transfer window to judge him. He’s been left with a cunt of a squad that McKinnon put together, I know the snake got us 7/9 before he fucked off, but he got lucky in a few of the games, nothing to say we wouldn’t be in the same position if he was still here.

He certainly has inherited a squad with weaknesses in every area, a tough gig for an inexperienced manager.

The Denny Johnstone of 3 years ago was certainly a better than any striker we have at Cappielow right now. However, he has scored 4 goals in his last 54 games... with his injuries and form leading to him being released by St Johnstone. He came to us this time around with a huge question mark over him... and with over a quarter of the season gone, has contributed very little.

A 35 year old Chris Millar or Andy Murdoch? I know who I'd rather have in the team...

Don’t think he was ever a sj player. Just on loan am sure

Was Johnstone REALLY signed by McKinnon? Can't help but feel the board had at least some sway in the decision to sign Millar, McAlister and Johnstone.

Ah ok...

So, Colchester Utd didn't want him, and St Johnstone weren't interested either. When a striker loses form/confidence he becomes pretty ineffective at any meaningful level... a lot to prove.

Think someone was feeling sentimental when these signings were made... and it wasn't McKinnon.

Do you really support Morton or just kid on you do?

For 30+ years... used to be home and away. Season ticket holder for maybe 10 seasons...

Would say I'm pretty much resigned to Morton being second rate now... so many poor things have happened around the club. Would admit to having lost my blind optimism, which some still clearly have!

If you can't make a coherent, half-decent team from the players we have you shouldn't be close to a dug out. It's patently obvious that Johanssen doesn't have a clue what he's doing, there's no point making excuses.

4 points from the next two games or he has to go.

This is the s*** squad that McKinnon put together. Give Johannsen a break and at least an opportunity to build his own team and playing style.

We were second when McKinnon left. Since then, we can’t pull a performance cr together.

Granted it is McKinnons squad but can’t help but feel there is a lack of tactical direction from JJ.

The aratwmwnt Made by Lazlo slating McKinnon, I was talking to someone last week about it we did due diligence on signings I.e. Johnston but none the less we don’t have a plan B.

Reading Jim’s comments, he has said that Hawke was badgering him for a while to sign. He should stay out of signing affairs as making a big enough mess off the field.

That's absolute nonsense. It might be short in a few areas but it is not a bad squad by any measure, and managers don't need their own players. It's their job to use what they have and Johanssen is making an absolute cunt of it so far.

Forgetting the snake's behaviour at Cappielow and just looking at the two, he and JJ in similar positions, who is doing the better job?

Very hard to call but JJ is young and inexperienced and McKinnon has years of experience at various clubs.

Each inherited someone else's squad.

We have been moaning for years about the same old doing the management roles in the Scottish Lower leagues and now the club has taken a chance by taking on someone different.

Suggesting that he should be punted now is patently ridiculous when you look at the squad available (injuries etc) and the fact that none of the signings are his.

How much time anyone in his position should be given is a judgement call and is probably best based on targets already agreed, but this season, although we would all obviously like to win the league or get a play off place, the former is not going to happen as Ross County will walk it and the latter is very unlikely.

So a target of mid-table and signs of significant improvement would do for me and a real consolidated push for promotion next season.

Just watched the goals. Gregor Buchanan is dreadful. He plays his own offside line with no regard for where anyone else is. He just stops at the second goal. Goals one and four show just how simple it is to get behind our defensive line.

MacLean is very naive at the third goal. The fifth goal was just lazy by Kilday.

It is far too easy to create chances against us. Look at the highlights of any game this season and you'll see the same thing - a terrible defensive line, non-existent marking, and all-round defensive naivety. JJ doesn't seem to have a clue how to fix it, but it would be a mistake to think that our defensive players are ok - that back four is atrocious. I've said it quite a bit this season, but Buchanan has been nowhere near good enough in all but one or two games. There is no-one in defence who is directing the back line.

Every manager inherits somebody else's squad. The idea that you need 22 of your own players is flat out bollocks.
