As we all deal with the boredom caused by social distancing or isolation and the ongoing lack of football, more polls to fill our time.

When the best team of the decade vote was done, there was a lot of complaining about the formation being decided by the poll format. This could be a ridiculous idea but in order to stop that happening and let people pick their own team in whatever formation they like, I'm going for the following.

You're allowed 25 choices in a poll, so there'll be polls with 25 players for each position, with the top options for each position progressing to the final 25 outfielders (the goalkeeper will obviously be decided by the goalkeeper only poll) then you can vote for whoever you like in whatever formation. That could have the potential to result in the top 10 of those 25 giving an insane formation after everyone has voted with different formations in mind, but that's the risk you take if you don’t want to be stuck with a 4-3-3 again.

Positions will be divided as follows with five of each going through:

Centre backs
Full backs
Central midfielders
Wide & attacking midfielders
Centre forwards

I get that's not perfect but the midfield needs to be split up somehow to fit everyone. I'll try to keep as many players in as possible, but where players need to be removed to get the numbers down to 25 I'll remove those who were serious contenders for the best team of the decade and some who made a few appearances then vanished, unless they were obviously terrible.

Players who played in multiple positions will be put wherever's most convenient for fitting them all in.

Bump, poll with the final 25 options now added and a vote for manager as well.

Sam Ramsbottom is confirmed in goal with Ryan Scully as second choice. Vote for the ten outfielders you want to join him.

Between Grady, Shiels and snake it had to be Shiels because of THAT disgrace.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

Got to be Shiels. Took over a bad side, spent a fortune, made it worse, 10-2 unforgivable.

Obviously 10-2 massively skews things against Shiels and rightly so, but he did pick up more points per game than Moore that season so I don't think it's true to say he made it worse. Clearly the wrong appointment who can only be described as a disaster, but still less bad than Moore in that season.

Grady for me. You can debate about whether a manager who has a concept of what tactics are but consistently gets them horribly wrong through dogmatism and/or incompetence like Shiels or Johansson is actually worse, but Grady genuinely didn't understand football. It was blatantly obvious to anyone watching that his entire gameplan and advice to players consisted of 'flat 4-4-2 today lads' with nothing further because he was absolutely clueless.

Shiels all but had us relegated before improving his point per game total, though. He undoubtedly made it worse before we got better (which happened far too late, and was completely undone at Hamilton).

I can't think of a more disastrous managerial spell than his in the last decade.

Grady was insipid, but never anything more than a place-holder for Moore. He didn't do the damage that Shiels did.

Yeah, I can't disagree with any of that. I still think Grady was the worst manager, but ultimately there was no legacy left by him beyond bad transfer decisions and he could be forgotten whereas Shiels oversaw the most embarrassing scoreline in the club's history, which will never be forgotten.

That's been plenty of time for votes.

The top 10 are:

Dylan Dykes

Henk Van Schaik

David Robertson

Donovan Simmonds

Marc Fitzpatrick

Jonathan Page

Andrew Dallas

Jonathan Toto

Darren Cole

Jake Nicholson

Few different formations possible there but I'd probably go for:

Ramsbottom

Cole - Page - Van Schaik - Fitzpatrick

Nicholson - Dykes - Robertson

Simmonds - Dallas - Toto

You could go 3-4-3/3-3-4/4-2-4/4-4-2 as well.

Back three would give you Cole at centre back and Fitzpatrick in midfield, while you could have Nicholson as an out and out winger rather than being in a midfield three and Simmonds being another winger - I'm sure Grady put him there a few times.

I think Dykes, Dylan, will be playing at the top end of either the Barclays or La Liga within the next ten years. Watch this space!
