Aulds Retail In Liquidation

The end of an era!

Presumably Greggs will pick up some, but others will be gone.

Aulds will keep going, selling inventory to Scotmid and other small shops, but no longer will one be able to "go to Aulds", which is a shame as I do so (well, did so) every time I was back in Greenock.

When Greggs, Costa and the like started hitting the High Street, Aulds just sat and watched. They've nobody to blame but themselves.

Aye, but you're only paying for nostalgia, not a decent feed. If you charge nearly £2 for a microwaved pie that the Norseman would be embarrassed to serve then you deserve to Rangers it.

Indeed. Aulds' savour products are dated, greasy, over-priced s***e. Their inventory products aren't exactly untouchable either, 4 of their rolls in my local shop cost £1.44 before they switched to Mortons. 36p a roll simply is not competitive.

Greggs are far superior to Aulds. They serve tastier products, served out of an oven rather than a microwave, they open earlier and they have a far more varied menu. All this at a better price. While economies of scale and the like play a part in that, I also think there was an air of complacency and superiority within Aulds that has proven to be their demise.

Indeed.

Their savoury range is indeed hilariously priced for a market of cheap stodge but their cream-filled fudge doughnut was (and almost certainly still is) nothing less than a divine gift to mortals from Wake on high. There’ll be multibillion hedge funds scrapping to get their hands on that recipe.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Aye, their patisserie products are Wake sent.

I forget the name of it, but the sugared donut with the 'cream' (really Mactop, a shelf-stable hydrogenated oil product) and 'jam' (really just sugar syrup with red in) was fucking amazing, even though I've made it sound awful.

They should have been forced by law to rename them ‘Ayr rolls’ to show all consumers that their product lived in the long, cold, dark shadow of a vastly superior brand.

It's a strawberry finger IIRC. There's probably a dirty joke in there somewhere.

If the 'strawberry finger' isn't the pink-iced bun filled with cream and resembling a small kayak then I know who in the Aulds' marketing team is to blame for their company doing a Rangers.

But the reality is the retail offering from Aulds was past its sell-by date - as for their attempts at running a café!

There is an Auld's in Renfrew which has a Cafe bit, and I haven't been it it once.

I remember them as being really crap and overpriced. Their Scotch Pies didn't have mince but a brown/grey greasy sludge. I recall when I worked down in Greenock I ruined several good ties as a result of the grease on those fucking things.

Schoolboy error. You have to pour the grease onto the pavement, creating a spa-like aromatic steam, before consumption.

Pour the grease onto the pavement? I was sitting at my desk at the time. Even if I tried I'm sure that SEPA would have issued a fine as they were that greasy.

The question has to be asked...

Why go back after the first one???

Let's face it, your hardly inundated with choice at Lunchtime in Greenock. There was a better bakery which I eventually started using, the East End Bakery which IIRC was next door to the Celtic Club. I think this was around the time when a Subway opened in Greenock.
