I see the Darroch's closing down after being hit with a £10,000 fine for showing football on a dodgy box. Seems showing a game of football and not paying a multi-billion dollar company is amongst the most serious crimes you can commit in the area.

Shite pub anyway, no doubt there'll be another 6 month tenancy taking over soon enough.

An utter shitehole of a pub with grumpy old staff and shite old man bands.

No loss.

Aye, it is. Whilst it's no loss to the world as a pub, such a heavy fine and the almost-inevitable closure of a small, local business is completely unacceptable, in my opinion, especially when you look at the leniency with which far more serious crimes are handled...and that's before we even get started on Murdoch and his business model.

It's fine to punish them, but I don't really see it as the state's business to be protecting private profits in such a vicious manner. You shouldn't lose your business just for showing a few games of football to one man and his dug.

Not been back to the Darroch since the day of Jim’s funeral when the party we were in must’ve out at least a grand behind the bar only to be told at 6pm that it was regulars only from then on.

Shite way to treat folk that have lined your pocket, said at the time I wouldn’t be back and I haven’t missed it. Likewise the Lighthouse after their carry on with the Dundee United fans in December.

The KKK Bin Pub Review #14 - The Elbow Room

Its back to a land that time forgot this week with a trip to Inverkip's effort at a bin pub.

fr_1664.jpg

The Elbow Room is the public bar offshoot of the Inverkip Hotel. The larger hotel bar/restaurant is a hotspot for middle aged wankers called Farquhar to discuss fucking sailing and their subs to the Tory party, so be sure to find the correct entrance.

Good

Despite the less then promising location, The Elbow Room at least remains faithful to some bin pub principles: big boy measures are in place and live sports can also be found on the TV. Despite a recent refit, it has also correctly stuck to the dark and dingy look: a pub should not be lit up like its under the floodlights at Cappielow.

Bad

Inverkip prices make Gourock's pubs look as good value as drinking at a streetside shack in Albania. The larger selection of pints split either side of the £4 mark. Prosecco rather than El Dorado is the wine on special offer here. The Elbow Room also serves a selection of bar meals, when the closest thing that a bin pub should offer to a solid meal is a packet of Scampi Fries and a dodgy pint of Guinness.

Verdict

1K/3

The Elbow Room fails to meet many bin pub requirements but is not so much of a fucking disaster as The Cloch or other failures within Greater Greenock. With big boy measures and live sport available, The Elbow Room is passable for an hour or two if you get stranded in that hovel of a village and want to avoid the local wanker set. It earns an 'any port in a storm' KKK certificate of acceptance but nothing more.

Serves me right for drinking regular Strongbow, but The Norseman served up possibly the worst pint of it I’ve ever tasted a few weeks ago. It’s an acquired taste at the best of times, but fuck me this was something else.

KKK there is a cracking wee bin pub up Skelmorlie called the Eglinton Bar or as the locals call it The Eggy! Of course it’s not the best location or easiest pub to get to but it’s cheap as chips, big boy measures and smells, solid bin!

Good luck convincing KKKelbie to go to Ayrshire. The Eggy is one of those places where the pints are expensive but the big boy spirits are cheap.
