UEFA set to hammer them for the display of flags of the failed Palestinian state at the ECL Qualifier against the Israeli team, Hapoel Beer Sheeva.

Discuss.

Not really fussed either way to be honest. They don't seem to mind when Nir Bitton plays for them so it's a hallow gesture.

Would be very amusing though if they drew Real Madrid or Barcelona in the group stage and they were forced to play them in an empty stadium. :)

only way to make it fair is to ban ALL national flags from sporting events?

But herein lies the problem: the flag of the failed Palestinian State is not a national flag, as the failed Palestinian State is not a universally recognised nation.

They are a shower of crackpots governed by terrorists, and only act as a warning to IS why they should give up even trying to get their own wee Muslim utopia. It is no surprise that Celtic supporters have taken to them as they love their terrorists masquerading as cuddly-toy like victims.

It's not really about fairness but about marketing. UEFA doesn't like having to adjudicate over FLEGS, so a blanket rule is more effective for them.

It is also about the good people of Israel whom these actions were intended to offend. Also, it is openly displaying support for a terrorist state and regime. They should face the ultimate penalty and kicked out of Europe as a result. In fact, all Scottish clubs should face a ban from Europe as a result of their actions in this instance.

As CHC said, they dont seem to mind Israelis when one of them is amongst their shower on the Park. The Terrorist loving Green Brigade once again never thought this through properly.

A blanket ban seems fair enough to me, to be honest, otherwise you could end up with all sorts of banners and political posturing (posturing being the key work; funny how Celtic supporters "gestures" always ensure that they're the big story and not the cause they claim to support). Heaven forbid UEFA, or indeed Celtic fans, become the arbiters of what is and what isn't a just cause. There's no story about this other than a bunch of spoiled brats being typically spoiled brats and spitting the dummy about it. Self-aggrandising bollocks.

Anyway, I notice their anti-Israeli stance didn't stop them celebrating Bitton's goal the other night and I doubt they'd have refused to have went to the group stages had that turned out to be the winner. Pretty much everything about Celtic is cringe-worthy as ****.

Edit to add: This is the exact wording of the relevant part of Article 16, for anyone interested:

"The use of gestures, words, objects or any other means to transmit any message that is not fit for a sports event, particularly messages that are of a political, ideological, religious, offensive or provocative nature". It's fairly clear what the ruling is.
