TRVMP
In the interest of fairness, what Falkirk did - scrap their youth academy and divert the money into scouting and wages - also has its own pitfalls. They signed a lot of players this summer and many of these were cast-offs from successful youth systems. But because they had little to no first team experience, it's easier to judge them incorrectly. Hence their current malaise. It should go without saying that the approach of scouting 'value' propositions that other clubs have let fall through the cracks will only work if you can actually identify a decent player who doesn't have a first team record to speak of. So there is no silver bullet here. Any path any club takes relies on competence.
