  1. Just seen a tweet from the club saying todays match can be streamed (including in UK) - what happened to the blackout on broadcasting 3 o’clock kick offs?
  2. Great performance from the entire team. We could have nicked a win (and were well worth it) but for a couple of outstanding saves from Gordon - the one from Strapp in particular was just ridiculous. We could do far worse than lining up like that for the next few games - or at least until Oakley & Wilson become available. Having the extra centre half gave the fullbacks licence to get forward a bit more and a few of our chances came about that way. Put in that sort of a performance we would rinse other championship sides on most weeks. Now that the cups out the way, we can focus fully on hopefully securing a playoff spot. Although on paper it looks like our form has dropped, I think that a lot of positives can be taken from our last 2 games - especially when you consider how many key players we have been missing.
  3. not a great game tonight but I felt we were unfortunate not to take something from it. Airdrie are breathing down our necks now with their win tonight and a game in hand. At this stage I am more concerned about getting Shug & Oakley back & and making a strong finish to the league campaign than I am about how we play against Hearts. If offered a scudding against hearts but finishing in a playoff spot I would gladly take it
  4. I was very impressed when I heard the attendance last night being announced (4,175 with about 250 Morton fans). At the moment we could only dream of getting close to 4k home fans on a regular basis. The only times we have got into that territory this season was for the games against Partick & Motherwell, and on both occasions the away support was a big factor. Looking at historic average attendances over the past 10 years, our fanbase during that time looks to be of a very similar size to Raith (from season 2012-13 to 2022-23 our average gate was 1,945 and Raith's 1,984, albeit they spent a couple more seasons in League 1 than we did). This season they have somehow managed to increase their average attendance by over 2k from last season. Even if you remove the derby against Dunfermline & 2 home games against Dundee Utd, their home average is still over 3K! It makes me wonder what (if anything) we could do to try and emulate this. Over the course of the season, this extra gate money could be worth up to 350K (based on the assumption of an increase of 2000 fans at £10 per person) - a serious amount of cash for a club at this level. I don't think its solely down to them having a good season - Raith have over 2000 season ticket holders so that is a significant number of people who made the commitment even before the season started. As far as I can see, they haven't been dropping their pants too much on ticket prices either(notwithstanding the excellent £10 price for last nights game) - I think their season tickets are about the same price as ours so I would like to see us look at how Raith have managed to be so successful in promoting ticket sales & try to see if we can learn any lessons from it. I suppose the elephant in the room is that prior to MCT takeover, fan-club relations were at quite possibly an all time low. Great progress has been made in repairing that, but maybe it will take a bit more time for goodwill to get back to anywhere near the levels it was in the early 2000's. (I have put this in here as opposed to the match thread as its a wider point about the clubs commercial operation rather than specific to last nights game)
  5. If he is going to be out for a significant length of time then it would definitely be worth trying to find a replacement on loan til the end of the season as we aren’t the same team without him and are once again starting to look a bit threadbare. I would hope that with Boyd leaving we have freed up a wee bit of extra money that could go towards a wage contribution. Off the top of my head (and just to pluck a probably unrealistic name out of thin air)I would love to see Stevie May come in on loan - he is as close as you could get to a like-for-like replacement for Oakley in terms of his style of play. He seems to have been out of the picture at St Johnstone since Levein came in - I’m just not sure if that’s down to injury or him being out of favour. If it’s the latter then a loan deal til the end of the season could suit both player & club.
  6. Solid point and a clean sheet. I will take that all day. A bit scrappy at times and not a lot of quality but I enjoyed it and it was an end to end entertaining game. “Two teams going at it” as Dougie would say. We had the better of them in terms of possession and chances but I would still say a draw was a fair result in the end. I really hope Wilson is ok and Oakley is back soon as back soon as they are both big players for us who we really missed today. I was worried when I saw Mullen was out but Macdonald looked comfortable apart from 1 miskicked clearance. Power was motm for me - the guys a class act and has really proven me wrong as I thought he looked finished earlier on this season.
  7. I would like to see us make moves to extend Oakley, Crawford, Muirhead, Blues, O’Conner & Strapp as soon as possible as I would see them as being important players for us regardless of which division we are in next season. If fit I would include Jai in that but the jury is still out on him as we can’t be using up a wage on someone who is only available half of the time. Unfortunately I expect most of the above will likely want to wait and see where we end up before they make a decision - at least 3 of them have definitely done enough to earn another crack at the top flight and I expect will probably have offers on the table come the summer.
  8. I think that its more of a statement of intent on where we want to be as opposed to an immediate commitment/expectation/deliverable. A lot of the other stuff mentioned in this document around the club culture, academy, player development, sustainable transfer model etc all play into this just as much as budget alone does. In recent seasons we have seen plenty of examples of clubs like Partick, Inverness, Dunfermline failing to make the top 4 (or even worse ending up relegated), and relative minnows like Ayr & Arbroath punching above their weight, so I am actually really happy that we are looking to put a plan in place that doesn't rely solely on us outspending the opposition. Personally I think this is an excellent piece of work - we are making a clear statement about where we want to see ourselves over the next 3 years, and laying out a clear strategy on how we intend to go about achieving it. Yes of course this document is light on specific detail, but you need to lay out the long term vision/big picture before getting down into the weeds. When I started reading it I was a bit skeptical that the first 2-3 pages were a bit generic and light on detail, but the last couple of pages definitely start to break it down into specifics. In theory we could revisit this document 3 years from now and put either a tick or a cross against each of the bullet points on those last 2 pages (which is something I hope the club does) This is a great starting point - if future decisions are made in accordance with the guiding principles in this document then we will definitely see the club continuing to move in the right direction in the next few years.
  9. I’m sorry to hear this, but at the same time am happy for the big man if he is in a position to step back and enjoy his retirement. Andy’s presence will really be missed about the club - his co-commentary was brilliant during the lockdown broadcasts and I’ve always enjoyed has company on hospitality days etc. He was also kind enough to record a really nice message for my friend on his wedding day which I played during my best man speech. I know that it’s usually done when retiring from playing as opposed to 40 years later, but I would like to see a testimonial game organised for him in recognition of his service to the club over the years
  10. absolutely love hearing this stuff from that wee shitebag "they are on a good run of form but aren't very exciting to watch" "they have beaten us 3 times albeit by playing unattractive football" "they will make things hard for hearts by looking for set pieces and launching the ball on top of the keeper" hahaha keep 'em coming ya wee fanny
  11. Still buzzing from last night - in terms of atmosphere I’ve experienced at Cappielow that is probably only bettered by the Peterhead game in 2003. At no point did we look like the lower league team up against premiership opponents - we more than matched them in every department and should fear nobody going into the next round draw. My ideal scenario would be that St Mirren knock out Celtic and we get them at Cappielow in the quarters. Winning on a Friday night is a special feeing - I’m looking forward to just relaxing and enjoying the rest of the weekends games. What a team!
  12. I agree completely - there is still a lot of work to be done (as he acknowledged in the recent interview) but credit where its due for dealing with this issue promptly, as well as the recent contract extensions that have taken place.
