My favourite line of the night was - "We're building a club, not just a team"

Obviously wasn't there but I can get behind that. It's the only way clubs like Morton have a long-term future in professional football.

It was an enjoyable night, Peter Martin was quite funny and ripped the pash a couple of times.

Some good tales from their playing pasts and good stories told.

For me the building for the future was a big point and the fact that these guys have been at bigger teams in the past and are willing to put in the hard work to get Morton challenging again with a professional attitude and a hard working ethos, I took it that the staff are dedicated to the club and are very much wanting a big change with the club and getting the players on board with the work hard, attitude and dedication and you will become a better player.

It was also very clear at the end when Hopkin spoke of Morton getting Cappielow full again and getting the fans right behind the club.

Very obvious they are all putting in hard work behind the scenes to make this happen plus the players don’t leave at 1 o’clock they stay behind and do gym work, they look at the opposition and talk about how they can improve on a daily basis, also very clear that they are looking to get youths from everywhere not just the Inverclyde area, they speaking to parents and showing them that there is a very real chance that if you are good enough there is a chance for you at Morton rather than getting lost in the OF set up.

Would go again (if it happened)

Dave McKinnon just comes across as such a cool guy. No whataboutery, just straight up.

 

I like that he's came in and tried to change the professionalism of the changing rooms for example using the set-up that he was exposed to at Arsenal and Rangers.

 

I said this before, but creating a professional place to work is so important to get buy in from players. They need to want to come to work. Same goes foe facilities.

Seems to be that no matter what age you are or what stage you are at in your career, you will get the professional treatment irrespective of what team you are playing in, you will get treated like an adult, you will be involved, you get the backing of all the staff, you get the advice wether it is analytics, diet, training and the advice from professional players who have played at a very high level and are willing to pass it on and show the players that there is always room for improvement.

Hopkin came across that he is also very much hands on and is willing to do extra work needed to make the team and players better and is willing to get his hands dirty so to speak and the players will improve under his management, also Anton and Timmins are right into this plan and are also getting stuck in and trying to improve not just the team but the club.

It didn’t feel like “let’s be having you” speak, it sounded more like we’re Creating something and we will do as much as we can to make this happen.

It was also good that Jim spoke highly of Lyon,Strapp and gave a glowing reference for McGrattan, so the talent is definitely coming through.

So, is Timmins now a good guy?

My concern about him was coming up from England was he followed the route of thinking their lower league players would stroll it up here but he spoke a lot about personality, ambition, etc and his attitude seemed to fit in well with the others.

 

Whether he's a good keeper coach is a different story but he seems to be part of the backroom team as much as just having the specific scout/ keeper coach role.

As much as Hopkin's hand was probably forced by the new budget, I like the approach of having a smaller backroom staff who can perform more than one role. It obviously puts more pressure on the initial recruitment, but if we get it right then it leads to a streamlined and effective backroom staff.
