Squad and transfers 2019/20

He's a player with good qualities but little end product. Another one whose career has stalled, and exactly the type of player we'd be looking to sign. Seems like a good match.

Against Rangers at Ibrox in the cup one on one with the goalie and he should have scored....... but he did a lot of good stuff too. He goes past players with ease and if his final ball/composure has improved he could be a real asset.

I'd be delighted if it's true Nesbitt's signing. I liked the variety of his deliveries, high or low crosses or cutbacks. He got to the byline so quickly, leaving the fullback behind him, that he had time to look up and see the options. Unfortunately our other forwards weren't on the same wavelength which people seem to have mistaken for Nesbitt not having an end product, Hopefully if he signs Hoppy knows how to maximise his delivery.

They also loathe Sir Gavin Gunning while rating both 'The Edge' and sand-dancing loser Paul McMullan, so their gormless opinions can be safely filed in the bin where they belong.

A very fair point.

Eh? We had a striker that scored like 17 goals that season.

Was Nesbitt even that good last time? All I remember was he could go past a player with a bit of pace but rarely had an end product. The fact Dundee Utd have emptied him suggest that hasn’t improved either.

He was good. In fact, in one of his last games we were discussing him that he was going to go very far in the game. Hence why I am surprised to see him back with us. Hopefully he hasn't developed an attitude problem or a chip on his shoulder during his time away.

It was not. This was the Year of Kudus. Forbinho was our top league scorer with nine.

Which is a relevant point, since Forbes was managing plenty of goals and assists from one side while Nesbitt wasn't from the other. He had good qualities, and was only young, but he didn't do enough in the final third. He could have done with a better striker in the box to aim for, but that doesn't give the while picture (and doesn't account for all his scuffed shots).

I'd be happy if Nesbitt came back. He was quick, direct and had loads of energy. His final ball was inconsistent but it's something that can be worked on.

I agree on his final ball but comparing him (a very inexperienced player at the time) to Forbes is a bit harsh imo. Our whole gameplan was centred around winning set pieces for Forbes during that part of the Duffy era.

If Nesbitt had been the finished article at 19 years old he wouldn't have been anywhere near Morton, so of course he wasn't firing in an endless stream of precision crosses. We're never going to get players who can do everything well, and certainly shouldn't be prevaricating over a player of Nesbitt's quality.

It's a big part of the job of a good Championship manager to take players who might be a bit rough around the edges and help round them off. It's either that or have a different Stefan McCluskey every year.

The Stefan McCluskeys are also a big part of the game plan here.

Young, hungry, enthusiastic, energetic, whose determination ends up giving more than their obvious shortcomings should allow.*

Certainly, aye, but you wouldn't go passing up somebody like Nesbitt for them, especially when the rest of your squad comprises of English ringers and Brechin rejects.

I think that's harsh on the new signings. They've all signed quite early on in the window to suggest they are high up the priority list and Hopkin seems to know enough about them to show he wants them.

It's not like the usual last minute signings.

Probably a bit frustrated since he left us. He has only had 12 starts in the last 2 years so he will be looking to go to a club where he will play most weeks and get his career back on track. Hopefully Hopkin is the man to get the best out of him.

Always a tad sceptical when someone never posts comes on and says he has signed but hopefully it's true and it's announced soon.
