Something about the whole thing doesn't seem very fair to me. Seems to advantage the big clubs who happen to have one of the schools on their doorsteps.

In the case of yon school in Aberdeen, it does seem that Aberdeen FC get all the top players, but if you remember Lewis McGrattan (still at Morton, I believe), he came through the Dundee school then to Rangers youth, then to Morton. And as mentioned, Harry Cochrane is Glaswegian, went to the Kilmarnock school, then ended up at... Hearts, despite the fact that Grange is on the other side of the country.

Ultimately I'm not convinced the location is a huge factor. It is *a* factor, particularly in the isolated Aberdeen region, but really all of these systems will just make centralized scouting easier, and that *should* benefit everyone pretty much equally.

In reality, of course, the bigger and richer the club, the more likely they are to snap up the best talent on offer, but that's true of almost any system.

More to do with population.

One in Glasgow at Holyrood, one in Kilmarnock at Grange, one in Motherwell, one in Edinburgh, one in Dundee,.... Can't remember where rest are.

Aberdeen
Dundee
Edinburgh
Falkirk
Glasgow
Kilmarnock
Motherwell

In terms of coverage of population, it's about as fair as you can get while not including the Highlands and Islands, and D&G. If anything the Glasgow area is underrepresented. Perhaps Fife is as well.

Aye, St Ninians in Kirkintilloch. They have had that link for over 10 years. I remember there was a boy who left St Columbas at the end of S1 to go there due to being signed by Celtic. They basically paid for his transport from what I heard.

Lewis McGrattan went to St Stephen's in Port Glasgow, or so I was told a couple of weeks ago at the Dumbarton game.

Was Cochrane not at Rangers for a while as well?

The idea is sound enough, in that these are essentially identified as elite performers. Young folk participating in other sports at elite level will be expected to have supervised coach led training for upwards of 16 hours per week. My own son currently does and it is expected that, when he reaches secondary school he will go to a school closely linked to his training club to allow for extra training.

The likes of Cochrane were the first intake, so the true measure of these performance schools comes over the next 2 or 3 years.

The bigger the club (for Scotland clearly Celtic and Rangers) the more they can attract and more often than you may be aware of pay for talent. Typically, it is the parents who have stars in their eyes when the Old Firm come calling.

Some millionaire investor buying in, hoping to make profits. Why the hell would Weir continue to fund anything where the only gain is to the new owner who could afford to do it himself?

Does anyone else see the parallels here between this and what is happening at Morton, where Crawfordjag is pleading poverty on behalf of his family, the squad is being assembled on a threadbare budget, some attention-seeker concocts some hairbrained 'ivry buddy chips in munny' idea whilst there are a pair of wealthy bloaters waiting in the wings to take over the club unopposed for next to nothing.

Why should Morton supporters be on the hook for DdFR's legacy of reckless decision making, and why should we be on the hook for funding anything when the incumbent new owners could fund it through their means?

They really have us over a barrel. I pledged to MCT because I see it as the least bad option for our immediate future.

Amazing how capital always gets off scot-free in the end, though. Fair play to Golden Casket, they've decimated the squad and made the fans pay for it. An absolute blinder from their perspective.

It's the bank bailout all over again.

The bit in bold, is it though?

Do you have any proof that the Easdales are taking over any time soon? They could get the club for nothing now if they wanted to but have been waiting and waiting for years now.

Nope, not really.

You're only seeing the parallels because you're wanting to see them. Two completely different scenarios.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

I believe it is, since the debt write-off is a part of it. I agree totally that this is a way for the fat cats to avoid responsibility for the club's debt - the one that they are responsible for - and it's regular fans who are being compelled to pay for it. So it leaves a sour taste. Nonetheless, it is still better than the alternative, which seems to be a slow descent into part-time football.
