Morton Q+A at The Beacon

Possibly a good guy, just a completely second-rate "scout".

You were making him sound like Barry Bennell's Alky twin last week, all because he found a keeper from the Ecky Thump leagues.

Don't forget, Pat Bonner Came from Kedue Rovers from Co. Donegal. :)

Yeah yeah, and Jamie Vardy came from Stocksbridge Park. But for every one player like that, there's literally thousands who are at that level for a reason (e.g. Sam Ramsbottom.)

If your job is literally to train goalkeepers and also to scout talent, it's really not unreasonable to expect that you can spot one who's capable of holding onto a football.

Carpet in a gym?

Was thinking that was weird, but presumably it's only in certain areas. Depending on the flooring material it might be to lessen the impact from dropped free weights. Or maybe he's as good at selecting underfoot fabric as he is choosing professional footballers.

Perhaps it's not about what you know, but who you know.

Do you think that maybe he is trying to do the young lad a favour?

There's probably some of that in it, but not in a nefarious way. He worked with him before and seems to genuinely like his attitude and knowledge, so perhaps out of hope as much as expectation he recommended him. People use their connections in this way all the time and in all walks of life. The difference is that in most walks of life there aren't hundreds of paying punters watching the new hire's every move.

Indeed. I still maintain that the reason why Adam Coakley was once signed for Morton was for a reason other than a footballing one, especially when he was signed and then released in the same close season by Partick Thistle before he joined us.

Also,

Sandy Easdale Jr. Different decade, different name - both had a rich daddy whom the chairmen were actively courting investment or sponsorship from.

Carpet in a gym isn't weird at all.

Those gyms must be honking.

I can't see any reason why anyone would want to install a carpet in a place where people are sweating profusely.

It's not thick pile carpets like in someone's living room. Pretty much all gyms have heavy duty carpets in them especially where there are treadmills, etc to give them something to absorb the pressure.

It's still a fabric that's going to absorb liquid.

Maybe you should tell the 1000s of PureGyms, etc up and down the country that they're doing it wrong.

Thanks for the heads up.

Will definitely be avoiding those cesspits with their honking, mangey carpets in future.

Speaking of Easdale Jnr, capitanus, i watched him for the reserves yesterday and he is absolutely HONKING.

They done a warm up drill - crossing and finishing from 6 years or so out, with no keeper, and he missed just about every single one. Looked like he didnt want to be there and in the game itself he'd have been as well not there.

Hes bad beyond belief

TIME FOR CHANGE!

They use carpet tiles not the heavy duty shag pile you knelt on when Hawke was explaining to you his needs as a CEO.

I might add, not like you to be prone to hyperbole - how many gyms do PureGym have? 😎

Normally it was in the board room.

They have millions.
