Annan v The Famous

Albion Rovers 0-0 Skunks

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

A welcome return to the Allan Moore experience of effortlessly dicking seaside league dross in the cup. Annan tried to use the exact same tactics as The Famous and were predictably given a bleaching because we have some real, actual football players in our squad and they do not.

Nesbitt, Cadden and Lyon were standouts; McHugh by contrast was anonymous throughout.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

I put a small sum on a 5-1 win at 50/1 on the basis that I couldn't see us keeping a clean sheet but expected us to score a few.  The team exceeded my expectations but for once I'd have liked to see us throw one in in the last minute.

I thought the performance was decent given the poor opposition, and we could have got double figures had we had a bit more luck in front of goal. Nesbitt is an entertainer and pretty effective and I can see him scoring a few goals at Championship level, aided by Sutton who was excellent both in the air and on the ground.  Five cracking goals, and particularly good to see Muirhead get our fifth - he had a lot to do when he got the ball but he turned the defender inside out and finished with a terrific shot placed in the corner.  Unlike last season, we look as if we have goals all over the park.  Special mention to Tumilty who I though tightened the right hand side up considerably and was constantly up supporting the forwards.

Ramsbottom didn't have a lot to do but he did most things fine and even held a couple of easy shots rather than just parrying them away.  He is extremely vocal.  Peter Grant was imperious and it's good to have a CB who can get some range on headers.

Lewis Strapp looks like a terrific left back.  Hard as nails, pacey, always looking to go forward.  I'd say he is ready for the first team.

Reece Lyon did well to hold the ball before setting Nesbitt on his way for the 4th goal.  I reckon this season will see Reece cement his position as a default starter.  Seems comfortable on the ball and doesn't panic.

Still a few reservations about lack of defenders but Hopkin will sort that.  However I think we are going to be fine in the championship - maybe not at the level where we're going to beat teams from the Premiership apart from dross like St Mirren (although they did get a creditable draw against Albion Rovers last night so well done to them).

Will be interesting to see what we do as regards loans, but I think we are on the right lines given the financial constraints (which seem to be affecting several other teams in our division too).

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

One point I haven’t seen mentioned- it was good to see Dave McKinnon cutting about and making a point of introducing himself to the fans.

After the two arseholes that have preceded him in the role, it’s nice to see a bit of customer engagement from the top of the club.

One thing I remember about him as a player was he had to have a kidney removed when he was at Partick Thistle, but came back and played on for a few years.

I'd love to have you both for dinner
