That doesn't seem right about Erik Sorensen - he's well into his 70's now, so I'd be very surprised if he was working as a ticket collector. Last I heard he had a pub in Odense.

The Scandinavian countries have a rather different approach to retirement. From memory the retirement age is at least 70, but a lot of people go gradually more part time through their 60's and into their 70's. This suits both employer and employee - a lot of employers only really need staff for a few hours each day (railways being a good example of this) so a reliable, experienced older person who's happy to come and do a few hours suits them.

I might need a few of the 'silver hair' Morton fans to help me out here but during the 1960s what was our most prolific season, giving that most of these players are in their elder years and it's 50 years it would be good to do a catch up (like the Stars of 79 but withou the fiasco).

Most prolific season was 1963/64 when we reached our last major cup-final.

Should the club be thinking of a celebratory reunion - absolutely.

He can't play as a trialist anymore at our level, so it makes it a bit more difficult to get a full time deal.

The 66/67 season was pretty good too. In the top division, the year we finished 6th (67/68?) and qualified for the 68/69 Fairs Cities Cup was a decent season. Think we maybe made the Scottish Cup semi in 68 too IIRC.

Practically any season from 1963 to about 1987 was better than anything we see now with a few glorious exceptions such as last Tuesday. Younger fans seem to see winning the third division title as a high point. I think of that as the start of a prolonged recovery from a low point, albeit we din't sink quite as low as in 1961 when we were absolute bottom of the entire league.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

Have a look at my "50 years ago" thread. Just about to post the next update.

Andy M suggested the very same last year and is in touch with Joe Caven, I personally spoke to Joe about 3 weeks ago and he listed about 9/10 of his team still on the go. I think would be a great idea.

I met Joe Caven at the Morton club one night and came across as a very nice gentleman who thought it a pleasure that fans still wanted to chat with him. If Celtic can do it with the 1967 squad then surely we can do it to ours, it is certainly an era that DDF is quite fond of, so invite them down for hospitality and get them out on the park.

Guest Andy Brady

Morton could make money out of a legends match between Rooney Team v a team of players from that Era.

Fix it so Ritchie omes on to take a penalty and scores.

Other money maker would be Rajamaki and Lindberg making an appearence in a game.

No commercial backbone!!

You do realise that 1963 was 50 years ago.

Joe and his wife are both very very found of Morton and more so the Morton support. When you speak to Joe he becomes very emotional and speaks proudly and with passion about his time here. He is amazed that, what he calls the "young yins" (I'm in my 50's, to Joe I'm a young yin!) are interested in what he has to say.

As Ian says he is indeed a gentleman and always has time to speak to Morton fans

Hopefully someone will arrange a special event for the surviving members, I think these guys deserve every plaudit.

Despite the 'fiasco' of the Stars event the actual night in question was absolutely terrific and I'd think a Greenock Town Hall event would be in order to honour messrs Caven, Mcgraw, Adamson and others.
