McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

Pretty funny that Clyde putting seven past Morton is described as a "disappointing game".

Must be referring to the wonderful defending.

Here is another report on that Cup defeat at Queen’s Park on March 17, 1945:

3rd Cup game (Section ”C”) away, at Hampden Park, Glasgow

Queen’s Park (2) 2 – 1 (1) Greenock Morton

Scorer:  McAloon

Team: McFeat, Highet, Fyfe, Campbell, Aird, Urquhart, Kelly, Garth, Arthur, McAloon, McInnes.

On a dry (for once) Saturday afternoon, Morton played away from Greenock in the first half.  Queen’s started with pressure on the left, and Aitkenhead’s handling of a bouncing ball was a saviour for the Morton defence.  Highet then tripped Aitkenhead.  Dixon’s free-kick was lobbed onto the face of the Morton crossbar, Fyfe clearing away the rebound.  On a break subsequently ruled as offside, McInnes shoots straight at Steadward in the Queen’s goal.  On another Queen’s attack, Fyfe clears initially but only as far as Harris in right midfield, who crosses strongly to the in-sliding Dixon who homes to the low right of the goal.

A Kelly run ends in him being sandwiched between two defenders, but a poorly-taken free-kick by Highet is directed straight at Steadward.  Another Kelly run, this time to the right bye-line, results in a strong cross blocked by Steadward, with the in-rushing Arthur crashing into the far post, his eye more on the ball than on any obstacles.  A long Garth try is easily held.  Queen’s Park are adjudged offside twice.  An over-strong Campbell cross can only be diverted onto the side-netting by McAloon.

Aird then handles in the penalty area, but no whistle and McAulay can only shoot across an open goal for a double Morton let-off.  The Morton defence starts gifting corners, seemingly in return.  A Kelly run down the right ends in a perfect cross to the far-left post, where McALOON meets the ball with a firm header over Steadward for the equaliser.

Morton are on equal terms for less than a minute – Harris breaks through to the penalty line, just onside, and he hesitates before homing to the top right of the Morton goal.  Urquhart suffers an injury to his right leg but soon recovers.  A Fyfe free is headed out and a Kelly wham is diverted for a corner by two Queen’s outfielders.  Aitkenhead is put right through but fails to control a bouncing ball and Archie McFeat gathers on the goal-line to end the first half action.

HT:  Queen’s Park 2-1 Greenock Morton

The second half starts with Queen’s pressure, but Kelly gets the first scoring chance, sending the ball unnecessarily over the bar from a McInnes corner.  The Queen’s defence appears shaky for the first time.  Following a Dixon dribble, Aitkenhead crosses for Harris to send a header close.  Campbell heads over the Queen’s bar.  McAloon then walks past his defender but his cross-shot is just missed from being diverted in by Garth.  A Kelly cross then runs along the top of the goal netting.  A better try by Kelly is from a free-kick, with Steadward just managing to palm his dipping shot over the Queen’s bar.  From the subsequent corner, McAloon sends a header straight at Steadward with the goal at his mercy.

Harris’ usual tactics of running to the right around Aird do not come off as he fails to gather, his cross towards Hodge sailing out for a goal-kick.  Hodge sends a subsequent chance over the bar from close in.  Kelly similarly shoots over after being set up by a McAloon dribble.  Hodge and Dixon then both miss chances for Queen’s before McAloon sends Morton’s last chance just past the right post, after being set up by Campbell and Arthur.

Best Morton player:  Campbell.

Referee:  J.S. Cox (Glasgow) – not bad and has heard of advantage rule!

This was the "we didn't give the ball back" game - to a team who'd kicked us off the park 10 days earlier. Allan Moore got a whining two page spread in the paper saying we were "asking for it".

1991 - Morton 1-1 Motherwell (Gahagan) a.e.t - lost 4-5 on penalties

Scottish Cup Quarter Final replay.

A travesty. Went behind to a flukey goal and then ran all over them. Absolute scenes at John Gahagan's equaliser. Atrocious penalty from Mark Pickering and Wylie failed to realise that every Motherwell penalty was sent into the same corner of the net.

Best bits of the highlights - see a very young Derek McInnes score our first penalty.

1988 - Morton 0-2 St. Mirren

Last top-flight derby to date. We goaded them with "you're coming down with us" until a fumbled cross left them with a tap in. Five minutes later we were 2-0 down.

2015 - Morton 2-1 Ayr United (McManus, Forbes)

This was the "1-0 down and season looking over at the 90 minute mark" game, and it was only 1-0 because of Derek Gaston. 90 seconds later it was #scenes everywhere.

Scottish Cup Quarter Final. We were 2-1 down with John Boag sent off - lucky to get another bite at this tbh.

One of my favourite Morton TV moments here - when we miss the penalty, the camera give a close up of a fan clearly shouting " that's p*ss". Seconds later Dougie makes it 2-2 and the same guy has jumped onto the track to celebrate, being ushered back over by a plod.
