Toby
Little point in starting a new thread about it so this is probably the most appropriate place... I see the new edition of Nutmeg has a feature on Hal Stewart and the Danish invasion of the 1960s for anyone who may be interested.

AyrshireTon
December 22nd - 2007 - Partick Thistle 1-1 Morton (McAlister) http://youtu.be/Twzkbk1-grU 1979 - Celtic 3-1 Morton (Tolmie) Two weeks after the Jardine incident, we were cheated again, at Parkhead in a top of the table clash. TV footage and the photos below clearly showed that their second goal was offside. Officials were having none of it and players were booked for protesting. Jim Holmes later said to a linesman "about f**king time you gave us something" when going to take a throw in, and was sent off. We never recovered from these games and our season slipped away. Always found it ironic that we signed Dom Sullivan a few years later. 1973 - Hibernian 5-0 Morton 1962 - Morton 3-2 Arbroath (McGraw 2, Wilson pen) 1956 - Morton 1-0 Montrose (Orr) 1951 - Queen of the South 4-1 Morton (McGarrity) McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up. The Bewilderedbeast
Sulllivan at least done ok for us, still the only player to have winners medals in all Scottish leagues I believe. Though seething at the time, what happened there was/is part of the game, just like a penalty being given for a foul outside the box etc. Jardine on the other hand was out and out cheating. Think I’d have chucked if we’d ever signed that khunt Jardine though

Though seething at the time, what happened there was/is part of the game, just like a penalty being given for a foul outside the box etc. This followed on from the same linesman giving offside against Roddie Hutchison after scoring a 30 yard chip in the first half, despite having been shown to have been played onside by Danny McGrain, by a good distance, who was standing in front of said linesman. I'd love to have you both for dinner
TorontoTon
Here is a first-hand report of the home loss against Motherwell on December 23, 1944 – notable for another early appearance of Jimmy Cowan: 9th League Trophy match at home, at Cappielow Park Greenock Morton (0) 1 – 3 (2) Motherwell Scorer: McInnes Team: Cowan, Higgins, Fyfe, Campbell, Aird, Whyte, McInnes, Garth, Crum, McAloon, Kelly.Morton played toward Port Glasgow in the first half. The kick off was late, and there was a League delegation in attendance, reputedly to watch Aird & Campbell of Morton and Paton of Motherwell. Even pressure marked the early stages, the first chance going to Mathie of Motherwell who unexpectedly received the ball from Maine in an open position and was only able to shoot past the right-hand post. An inter-passing Mathie-Gibson move for Motherwell ends with Mathie on the right touchline crossing at four-feet high and Gibson scrambling it home to give the visitors the lead. The inter-changing appeared to confuse Aird and Fyfe. McInnes for Morton then sends to Crum who passes on to an unmarked McAloon. But the Morton forward gets mixed up with his own legs and fails to touch the ball home. Kelly in an open position then mis-kicks over the bar. A Campbell free near the right corner flag was just held by Johnstone at the right-hand post. A ‘poaching’ Garth then just fails to intercept a Paton-Johnstone pass-back. McInnes sends a bouncing ball over the bar in good shooting position. Kelly starts a neat cross-field Morton attack and McInnes lets go a winner, but Motherwell ‘keeper Johnstone was down in a flash and only a fruitless corner results. Motherwell defender Kilmarnock comes upfield and his curling cross was unexpectedly reached by Mathie who sends a header just over the bar. Crum and McAloon then dazzle with close control but make no significant progress. After Mathie had cartwheeled over Cowan from a “leg†charge, Andy Fyfe stares witheringly at Mathie. A Whyte free sees McAloon head the ball on for Crum to make an effort at goal, but Johnstone was again equal to it. Crum then does see the ball home, but the referee disallows the goal due to a push. A long Campbell shot sees Johnstone run across his goal to clutch easily. A Gibson cross then finds Mathie who scrambles a header home.A Kelly cross-header bounces past the right-hand post by about a foot. A Whyte free at the left corner flag lets McAloon head onto the right angle of post and bar, and the rebound is then cleared. Cowan lets a low Gibson shot run under him, but he still manages to stop the ball with his body. The Morton ‘keeper then holds a McGowan shot at the left upright, before Crum just fails to reach a Kelly cross, ending the first half. HT: Morton 0-2 MotherwellThe second half starts with Motherwell ‘keeper Johnstone again stopping a Morton scrambled effort on the line. Gibson then is sent through by Mathie and neatly sends a shot home chest-high at the right-hand post. McAloon sends a shot miles over the bar from only 5 yards out. The same player was then put through, and this time a fine shot was superbly saved by Johnstone, diving full-length to his right. McAloon then sends a close-in pass to Crum for an open chance that is again missed. Johnstone then takes 4 steps with the ball and is penalized with a free-kick inside the penalty area. McAloon however sends the resulting shot from Crum’s free over the bar. McINNES misses with a swing shot, but finally sends a consolation goal home for Morton, lobbing in at the far post after Johnstone could only help on a Kelly corner. Referee: Calder.Best Morton player: Campbell.
