McAlister and Millar are winding down their careers at this stage, I don't think they'd have too many options that wouldn't involve stepping down to a part-time level. Extending their spell here works out well for all concerned.

Buchanan is at a different stage in his career so could take a different option, but as he's a total fucking haddy of a footballer that decision also works out well for all concerned.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

I think they both moved back to Morton because they wanted to be closer to home, especially in the case of Millar so i'm not too surprised that they have re-signed.

I haven't read the article regarding Mcalister yet however i'd still be quite surprised if the club were allowed to offer reduced terms to the players who reached the 25 game milestone, otherwise there surely wouldn't have been the Telfer palava on the final day of the season if we were able to offer him reduced terms, as if the new manager didn't want him he could have offered him a 50% pay cut knowing that he was never going to accept it.

Big difference between McAlister and Miller and the likes of Telfer and Buchanan.

The stage of their careers, their previous associations with the club, what they are looking for out of a club and life.

We were possibly compelled to offer them like for like, but what's to say there weren't conversations with Hopkin explaining the budget reduction, the reduced offers to everyone else, and the effect matching their previous salary would have on the overall budget. They could have taken one for the team and offered to accept reduced terms despite not being compelled to do so.

Likely never know.

Although, all that flies in the face of the hope we retain that we will push the boat out to keep Tidser.

Just his future we wait on.

Almost a starting 11 now, albeit the Morton women's team would prob beat it!

              Pearson.

Tumilty   new  McAlister  Strapp.

Orsi  Millar  Jacobs Lyon  Dykes.

                 McHugh.

Would imagine at least 5-6 of those will start the first game of the season.

Much work needing done Davie!!

There is I assume a basic wage plus bonuses and it may well that while their basic wage is as was there has been room for manoeuvre with the add-ons.

As has been said the critical issue is that they want to play for Morton and can still do a decent job for us.

Pretty pleased with that. I criticised McAlister a bit last year but he showed towards the end of the season he could still be a really useful player for us, and the versatility is a bonus too.

Think the Tidser boat has long sailed unfortunately.

Tidser’s waiting to see what happens with Falkirk. I would give him a deadline tbh.

Agree completely. While he's obviously one of the division's best players, we've a squad to build.

I'm also a bit underwhelmed with the Orsi signing, though I'm wondering if Hopkin and McElhone have a certain profile of player in  mind to meet their intended high press, "in your face" style of play. I get the feeling they want to put round pegs in round holes etc.  and it's not all about players' previous reputations. A bit like the American Football Coach (Lombardi?) who famously identified players without big reputations, who would fit his team profile and do the job he required. I think that's very similar to what Hopkin did with Livingston, though obviously at a different level of recognition.

If they sign for Dundee they will end up successful like ICT's lower league english signings the past few years, and if they sign for us they will end up like Falkirk's signings last season.

Good people will do good things, bad people will do bad things, but only with religion do good people do bad things!

"Michael Tidser is now a free agent after his pre-contract with Falkirk was voided following their relegation to League One."

That's always been the case since the last day of the season.

Doesn't mean he still wont sign for them, especially if they offer the best deal!
