irnbru
I would have kept him and maybe have had him help SUtton out with the Development Squad. Concerns me We are letting players go and signing others when there is no gaffer in place. We're not really letting them go though - just not signing any or renewing contracts to allow the new manager to make that choice. For Iredale and younger players we'd get a development fee even if they moved on if we offer a contract so they are a bit different.

TheGoon
Harkins proved me and many others wrong this season, undoubtedly our best player/signing for the campaign, but can I blame the club for not giving him a deal like they did Iredale? No, not really. Completely different circumstances. As has already been pointed out, a new manager could come in and not fancy him, then we’re left with a relatively high-earner being a bit-part player, which is far from ideal. Harkins could’ve waited it out, he didn’t, and QOTS is a decent move for him, wish the guy all the best.
TRVMP
It can't be easy for footballers in Scotland, having generally just one-year deals and not knowing where they'll be from season to season, but at the same time the Board is doing the right thing by properly recruiting a new manager. It would be easier for all the squad if Duffy was there handing out contracts, but both he and they failed to finish the league strongly enough to justify it. If they wanted contracts on the table in April they shouldn't have finished 7th. Now they have to wait. And if those who do wait get better offers in the meantime (such as Harkins with QotS) then they are absolutely entitled to take them, and I wish Harkins the best of luck there (except against us.) Dunoon_Ton
Sake man, its disappointing he is away, but he was out of contract and probably not willing to wait until the new manager comes in and decides who he wants to keep. QOS gave him an offer and its totally understandable he is away, good luck to him For everyone hand wringing about players leaving, what were you hoping for!? The board to sign up everyone that's out of contract just in case the new guy wants to keep them? Its more important we take the time to get the manager right, he can then decide what style and type of players he wants to keep, getting rid of the dead weight jobbers at the same time. Nobody that is out of contract at our club is going to be in huge demand after the shan season we have had, so keep your wig on and lets see how this plays out. LinwoodTON
It could be that the new manager is already calling the shots. <span style='font-size: 14px;'><em class='bbc'>"That LinwoodTon's a c*nt, eh?"</em></span>
Madton
Harkins confirms on twitter that he has "No offer" from Morton. No surprised by that. We all wanted Duffy gone and the board acted. We can't then complain that certain players haven't been offered a deal while we recruit the new manager as he should be allowed to build his own team. ( Could you imagine the reaction if we signed Doyle or Forbes before a manager is appointed) As others have said, the players need to wait for the new man to be in place if they want a new deal. If they don't and go elsewhere then that's their prerogative. Hoping at least some of them, Lamie, Quitongo, Murdoch, Oliver etc wait a week or two and at least have a chat with the new manager rather than jumping ship too early. I’m sure we’ll be due some sort of fee for Oliver if he goes somewhere which will hold him up going anywhere else. Same with Quitongo.

He is 23 in July so not sure if that means he can walk away for nothing then. Personally hope he stays!

Jamie_M
Chairman update, the correct approach - https://gmfc.net/2018/05/09/out-of-contract-players/ Absolutely the correct approach and good to get a timely update from the club after Hawkins' announcement. Normally that would be left to stew for days letting the criticism flow.
