Annan v The Famous

The way the groups are progressing, it looks most likely that 9 points + several goals positive GD will be enough to qualify as a best runner-up this season. A win this evening by a comfortable margin should be the target and so attack should be treated as the best form of defence throughout the game.

4-1 to The Famous.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

Pretty much. It's time to learn how capable the squad are to bounce back after a heavy defeat. I wouldn't be fannying about with a weakened team for this one either, strongest XI possible, then we can rotate if we're well ahead.

3-1.

If it’s a back three, then Strapp and McAlister along with Grant? If it’s a four, Strapp and Tumilty as full backs, McAlister along with Grant?

Jacobs going into defence, a youth teamer being launched in or Dykes making an appearabce are other potentially hilarious scenarios.

Jacobs, McAllister and Grant would be fine surely. Salkeld and Strapp at wing back. Millar and Lyon in the middle. Cadden, Nesbitt and Sutton up top.

Given that neither Strapp or McAlister are natural centre backs I'd be more comfortable with a back four. One of them along with two natural centre backs would be okay but not two of them along with one centre back. Our squad really is paper thin.

Going back to the 8-8-8 thing, which I know we're not explicitly doing but I think it's relevant, having a squad light on well-paid professionals only works if you actually do have the youth and the squad players to augment them.

We're not the only club facing this issue - I see other teams with very, very thin benches - and I think it bodes ill for Scottish football that recruitment is now so slow and player contracts so rare.

Football clubs get far more prize money for playing at this level than at the start of the decade - and gate revenues have also increased well over inflation - so it’s about time someone explained where all the money has gone to and why clubs can no longer build a credible squad for mid-July. If it’s due to the shite, overpaid journeymen in the Anglo-Scottish market (which it almost certainly is) then all the more reason to invest in scouting the financially poorer leagues of eastern Europe. It would pay off tenfold in very little time at all.

I may be taking an over simplistic view on this and I know it is something I mentioned before but are there genuinely no centre backs in the development squad? Easdale has been given a squad number and we do not appear to be light in terms of forwards. The boy Gavin Watt, who I do not know and have never seen play but who got good press last season and played for Scotland Schools a couple of years ago is nowhere to be seen. I am sure there are other centre backs as well.

I only mention this as we currently have one fit centre half.

As you mentioned TRVMP, the 888 approach only works if we have the required cover. Whi H it appears we do not.

Last season in the reserves we had Daniel Martins, Gavin Watt and Nathan Durham all frequently appearing in the CB role. All big lads but none that I could possibly see breaking into the first team any time soon, if at all. Watt was probably the best/most composed but still lacked the presence to feature in the first team. Martins was released from the club and I haven't seen Durham or Watt mentioned at all in months.

Grant is genuinely, as far as I am aware, the only fit and capable centre back in either the development or first team squad.

Could be:

                 Ramsbottom

      Jacobs    Grant    McAlister

Tumilty                                   Strapp

            Cadden       Lyon

    McHugh    Sutton     Nesbitt

ETA: Yours makes more sense, though!
