New Catering

Recommended Posts

The mantra of the past twenty years has been 'bring a friend', making the place a good value proposition would be the first part of that.

You're singling out the Pies - the catering forms part of the bigger picture - as are various other components for the perfect day out. Kilmarnock enjoyed the reputation of being a good away day in the eyes of many for almost two decades as a result of 'the Killie Pie'. That pie is ours now, we just need to put pressure on the makers to rebrand it properly and drop the Kilmarnock crap.

Also, I think that you're seriously underestimating the football day trip audience, even locally, when supporters of other teams aren't playing (inc. the obvious two) then there is a small but not insignificant uplift in crowds of other teams. Even if it meant an increase of 1500 extra over the course of the season (which isn't unrealistic) then it's the equivalent of an extra league game in revenue, which mean extra funds for players etc.

It's not a futile exercise - if people enjoy it they'll come back and also tell others.

That 1500 number is way off. If we play somewhere between 20-25 home matches a season, you're claiming that around 70 people attending that game will be tourists.

That's never going to happen.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

Better pies doesn’t mean more folk turning up. That’s just nonsense.

East Stirlingshire did a cracking chicken pakora - I don’t recall the numbers swelling at Firs Park as a result.

McGhee needs some support, there's no-one backing him up.
Hayes playing it forward, Bell being forced to do it all alone, now forward from Marr, here's Ritchie, still Andy Ritchie, look at the control...

That is a marvellous goal from Andy Ritchie. Twenty minutes on the clock and Morton's supporters come alive. A goal which epitomises the control, the arrogance, the cheek of Andy Ritchie.

With the Old Firm both playing on Sundays now there are a lot of people in Greenock with free Saturdays. Obviously a lot of Morton fans don't want these people to come to our games but it is an opportunity to earn some extra dosh and maybe their weans will enjoy it so much that they become Morton fans

The only time I’ve ever known OF fans to come to Morton games are when we have really big games, like a big Scottish Cup tie (away vs Motherwell in 2007 for example), a title clinching match or a derby. Even then, they’re normally tagging along with their Morton supporting mates rather than going alone or with their families.

I can’t see it ever becoming a regular thing, and I’m not upset by that in the slightest.

Morton’s stance in refusing to vote your former club’s tribute act into the then First Division in 2012 has finished off the chances of a lot of that mob returning as casual visitors to Cappielow. They see us as enemies who tried to kill them, when in fact they succeeded in killing them.

A hit worth taking, I feel :).

Even if we tell them that we have the PC words for their tunes? Shame

It's not really unrealistic numbers. I mentioned the Groundhopper types but there also the likes of Fairweather fans, lapsed supporters, supporters of other clubs taking in random games, supporters of other clubs who may have a soft spot for Morton For whatever reason etc. Even just a random Greenock dad taking the kids along on a Saturday. We've had all that in recent memory, if the club made the effort then I'm sure they could get them back. Even if the Groundhopper set may not be vast in numbers, they would be instrumental at spreading the word about how good Cappielow is to visit.

One of the things which could get them back is making it a good value for money proposition, of which the catering would be one component. Couple that with a team that plays good Football and challenges for things, then we have a recipe for success.

Just like Irnbru, I noticed AyrshireTon singling out the Pie comments, I did say that catering would be part of the bigger picture but he chose to ignore that. God help the kids he teaches if that's his attitude. Also, being from Ayrshire he would have been able to see first hand at how the 'Killie Pie' popularity benefited Kilmarnock over the years, to the tune of over £1m over the past decade.

No more. The Killie Pie has been rebranded “The Kilmarnock Pie” and is no longer sold at Rugby Park (where the caterers have opted to call their steak pies “Killie Pies”).

Kilmarnock Pies are available in Spar-type shops down here and are honestly not that great anyway.

It may have made them money, but I doubt it had much bearing on the size of the crowd.

Really!?!

The link which I posted (and you quoted) was about the fall-out between the bakers and Kilmarnock, which explains a good deal about the baker cashing in on his successes at the Pie awards and the club getting greedy and looking for a piece of the action.

I find the term 'Kilmarnock Pie' off-putting, anytime I think of Kilmarnock I think of that mad junkie Marvin from the Scheme. Doesn't exactly what my appetite. All the more reason why we should get the firm to ditch any reference to Kilmarnock, at least locally anyway, and brand it properly as 'The Cappielow Pie'.

This is not the Killie Pie or the Kilmarnock Pie anymore, it's our Pie and should be promoted properly as this.

As I said above, the Steak Pie isn't that great, but the ordinary Scotch Pie is nice, and may prove successful at the awards. I occasionally get a few from My local Spar shop when I see them in stock.

There can be no disputing that The whole 'Killie Pie' phenomenon has been good PR for Kilmarnock over the years, and Morton taking advantage of the Browning's fallout with Kilmarnock and signing them up as our suppliers will be a great coup for Morton.

11 Greenies, eh?

With popularity like that it's no wonder that the groomed arsehole wants you to join his fledgling forum to discuss melons and cheese with the likes of Quick Draw, PledgerTon and co.

Not been that impressed by their stuff. The remade aulds one was better and with a bit of effort I'm sure they'd have an easier sell of a greenock pie or something along them lines with a local company.

No offence like, but 'a Greenock Pie' sounds as appetising as 'a Kilmarnock Pie'.

In addition to the Spar type shops you mention Brownings Kilmarnock Pies are

available in Aldi.

My local sells them, but the shredded steak pies they also sell (made by a local butcher) are amazing and vastly superior to the Kilmarnock Pies.
