Iredale for me. He was still quite raw when he arrived at us and settled into left back, but the potential was obvious very quickly. He developed defensively as the season went on and contributed a lot going forward. Big handsome Lamie in second place, although his best position is central rather full back.

You address me by my proper title, you little bollocks!

Surprised Lamie has a few votes, he was terrible at left back for us.

That wasn't entirely his fault, he was a young centre back shifted out there and he had to learn quickly. I thought his attitude and application were excellent in that first season at left back, and it also developed his distribution for when he was moved into the centre.

I don't doubt that, it was clearly a Duffy decision but doesn't take away from the fact that overall he was really poor there, even if he applied himself correctly etc. We would all burst a gut if we pulled on the jersey, but would still be brutal.

Delighted he proved his worth a CB but amazed people have considered him as our best left back in ten years!

Dodgy in the league 1 season before moving to CB but more than able when used out there in subsequent seasons when Duffy went for the more defensive back line against bigger teams.

Just went with Iredale, which is probably reflective of the poor options we’ve had there. Russell did look a player in League 1 but just never got to that level again. It’s hard to imagine the same guy that scored that goal away against Dunfermline went on to absolutely nothing

Mark "Mark" Russell actually just helped Finn Harps to victory in the League of Ireland relegation playoffs, scoring the equalizing aggregate goal in the second leg. They had an open-top bus parade through the street(s) of Ballybofey, Co. Donegal. Later they soldered the roof back onto the bus.

Anyway, I voted for Iredale, who really looked the part for a little while.

Russell also won fans player of the year awards in our first season back in the Championship, and had an impressive start to the following season as well. It all went a bit wrong after that, but he did have an impressive 2 and a half years or so - which was probably the best prolonged spell of form we've had from a left back in a long time. The way it went for him in the last couple of years was a major disappointment, and has understandably had a big influence on how fans remember him.

Overall, I thought Iredale was a bit rubbish last season. Any confidence he had seemed to have abandoned him for long spells. Great to watch him make those forward runs at his best, though.

Full backs are going to be a tough pick. It would be easier to go for a 3-3-3-1 formation, but since that wouldn't actually work in the pitch, it seems like a wee bit of a cheat. The poor options at full back are an honest reflection on the decade.

I'm now leaning towards Russell as well. Iredale popped up with some very important goals, and I think this helped his reputation a lot. Had Russell started badly but finished well (as opposed to what happened, which was the exact opposite) then I might have been more enthusiastic about him in the first place.

The recency bias can work both ways, I think. People will also forget bad spells if a player ended well. Lamie would be a perfect example, but as others have mentioned it wasn't really his fault because he was out of position for several months.

No full back on either side of the park in the last decade merits selection in this team: get them and their dung position in the sea.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

A lot of the blame for his drop off in form/confidence has to go to Duffy. He went in for the brainless 'good attacking full back so let's stick him in midfield' strategy and it seemed to ruin Russell completely. That been said, if you're not adaptable enough to overcome something like that then maybe you don't have the mentality to play at a full-time level. Duffy (correctly) gets credit for the development of guys like Lamie, Kilday, O'Ware, Quitongo etc, he also needs to take a sizable portion of the blame for Russell's drop off.
