Something tells me if he gets out of hand he'll have an "accident".

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

It's kind of hilarious that people in Scotland think they have the right to point fingers when an alarming 45% of our own electorate got a simple yes or no question wrong.

By your logic then, indyref2 will have a 90% yes vote.

My predictions are 99.999999% absolutely brilliant but I expected a blue Senate. Now that the GOP holds both the executive and legislative we're well and truly through the looking glass. It's hard, even as someone who backed Trump, not to be nervous. For example, there are some seriously bad dudes in Congress now. And Mike Pence isn't entirely trustworthy.

This is an absolutely pivotal time in American politics. At home, healthcare and education are ticking time-bombs. The aforementioned bad dudes are just waiting to try some LGBTQ-baiting. Nato will not make it out of the next four years in its current form. Interesting times, to be sure.

Neither good nor bad although having one party with power across the 3 arms of government suggests that the log jam is finally broken. Be interesting to see how that works out.

I wouldn't stake my life on that. It's worth remembering that half the party hates him. The establishment, amnesty, big-business guys* hate him. The neocon wing really hates him. I believe that we're in the midst of a realignment and if the two-party system endures it will be entirely due to inertia, because the Trump and establishment wings of the party are very, very far apart ideologically. In the middle, a lot of swing state reps are going to be leery of getting too close to Trump because although he absolutely owned the electoral college, the popular vote as of right now (with some votes still to come) is narrowly in Clinton's favor.

Some people fear (or hope) that this is an Enabling Act of an election. I don't see it that way at all.

*most people following the election have probably figured this out by now but despite being a rapacious capitalist in his personal capacity, Trump is not the candidate of big business. Mitt Romney was such a candidate, as was Jeb. Totally rejected by the electorate.

Cleary Trump is not a Republican in any meaningful sense and consequently many in the party will be less than ardent supporters. However he is riding a wave of populism among the main GOP demographic and I doubt that too many will want to be seen as standing in the way of his 'program'. But you are right that some of the more appalling elements will see this as a justification for advancing their bile and bigotry.

The fact that he owes nothing to the the Republicans may well give him the freedom to exercise his judgement about what his constituency wants and to ignore the principled mentalists.

Ultimately he'll be judged on whether he can drain the swamp and revitalise the economy of middle america and as you say it'll be very interesting. Get your money into concrete and chain link futures Nacho :)

But maybe you reckon Trump is? :D

I have to admit, I'm still shocked that the Yanks voted for Trump. Granted, I'm probably on record somewhere saying I was a supporter - let's face it he said a lot of things which I could easily agree with, and he seemed a fun character with the audacity to speak his mind without caring whether it's PC or not.

However in recent weeks he made for some disturbing viewing, it was like watching someone having a Zhivago/Ernie style meltdown on a global scale, and seriously thought Hilary had this in the bag, because a nation of 300million people couldn't possibly elect someone so mentally unhinged. But they did. And it proves that I know fuck all about Yanks or their politics, except banning Muslims and building a huge fucking wall are not bad ideas.

Edit to add:

One enjoyable consequence is the new fascist Nachoking. He's much more fun than the other one.

If you're following British media you're misinformed daily, it's as simple as that. Those who read my post back in February, however, would have seen this coming. Hopefully some of you had a bet on.
