a know maybe he missed the bit in his version of the bible when jesus raised lazurus from the dead

That has already been pointed out to him Chris.

If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as though the writer had stated them. The dignity of movement of an ice-berg is due to only one-eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing.

The basturts will, should God exist, be in Hell.

Will they? I thought God forgave all (or something like that)? Nah, the tamperers will be sitting on a cloud, sharing a chilled corona with Peter Sutcliffe, Hitler and Jim Dick.

Just thinking, with us recently drawing Celtic in the Scottish Cup et al.

If any passing Celtic supporters were reading this thread, many of then would have confirmed their suspicions of being a "Hun" team.

Just an observation.

I think it's more likely a neutral would think this was an undercover Celtic board such is the paranoia and siege mentality being adopted by the green corner. Characteristics exclusive to the Porkheid dweller.

have a wee read of celtic minded and you will find out. a club founded to help make money for the poor irish catholic immigrants would naturally maintain such a link.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences."

see, that's where you're getting confused - you probably got that from the bible, but there's been a couple of millennia worth of pish made up since then about purgatory, mortal and venal sins, states of grace and all that. not a word of which is actually in the bible.

some might call that speculation or even navel-gazing, but since it's been around for so long its real name is doctrine.

Depending on your reading of the Bible, Jesus himself mentioned Hell (Gehenna) in Matthew:

i never mentioned hell, ya spod.

I know, but generally people*, when thinking of the vengeful-loving spectrum of the Bible, tend to place the Old Testament God firmly on the jealous, angry side and Jesus on the hippie side. I think the idea of God forgiving all is overstated because both the OT God and Jesus were pretty angry with those who didn't blindly obey them. (Again, it's almost as though it was written by a particularly insecure group of humans who felt that their warblings weren't sufficient to command obedience on their own, but needed a few threats to spice it up. Almost.)

*poorly-read people at least, see Tom McB for a perfect example

power requires the threat of punishment. and if you've ever visited st peter's in rome, you'll know that religion is all about power. i defy anyone to find anything to do with jesus in there among the thousands of monarchs, saints and popes.
