Megrahi........ A Curious Case...............................

We'll disagree then. Guilty or not (of Lockerbie) I'll struggle to find much sympathy for one of Gaddafi's stooges. My sympathies lie with the relatives of the victims, poorly served as they are by the government(s) and the justice system.

ditto. i'm sure his family is living high on the hog back home because of his compliance. i find the whole thing sad - everyone accepts there has been a miscarriage of justice and nobody even seems to care (barring the families of course).

i would like to see an independent enquiry (fast becoming an oxymoronic term in this tawdry wee country), but there's as much chance of that as seeing blair and bush tried in the hague, more's the pity.

the guy below loves the boaby.

I get the impression that the American relatives just want the comfort of knowing someone is locked up for it, and aren't actually that fussed as to whether or not he's actually guilty.

I think Americans need to know someone's been convicted and put away to give them what they call 'closure'. I think 'closure' for them takes priority over justice.

I don't think you can necessarily hold that against them. They're perhaps a little more vehement that some in the UK, but a fairly natural reaction nonetheless.

However, as you say, justice should be the overriding consideration in all if this.

They'll never admit that the conviction was unsafe.

I really doubt that Megrahi was capable of this crime, but I am mystified as to why Salmond would want it all swept under the carpet, expecially when he of all people potrays himself as some kind of crusader for the truth of UK War crimes etc in Iiraq.

It does seem strange, he and cuddly Kenny McAskill have some explaining to do.

Actually they were living high on the hog in a very pricey part of Newton Mearns but like you I'm certain that they will be well provided for by Madaffi.

Meanwhile Europe now has access to the s***loads of Natural gas in Libya, a wee trans Med pipeline and we have an alternative to the Russian supplies which Mad Vlad Putin likes to uses as a weapon.

Result all round, dosh for Madaffi, Energy security for Europe.

Very strange indeed. If the british and US governments have done deals or been involved in some kind of shennanigans over the bombing, why are the SNP coming to their aid so to speak ?

Megrahi has now dropped his appeal so we will never know anymore about this case.

The SNP government have now become embroiled in controversy when they really didn't need to.

They could easily let Megrahi die in jail and only small voices would have been heard, now we have global condemnation of a possible release from jail.

Other than letting Megrahi go for compassionate reasons (which I doubt) I don't see what the SNP government are gaining out of this...

Don't blame me I voted Yes!!!! - We tried to tell you !!!!!

Naw, I couldn't see you being friends with Gruesome George. I was thinking more of your fellow tory and man of property, the Belgian boulevardier. :D

My own view is that the whole thing stinks. There are too many things that raise suspicion, and in particular the fact that many high-ranking USA citizens, and others, were warned not to fly Pan Am at that time. It was mentioned in one of the papers today that there was a memo to that effect in the USA embassy in Moscow shortly before December 21st 1988. Someone must know why that was done. The reason there were so many students on board is that they were trying to get late cancellations so as to get cheaper flights - conveniently, lots of seats suddenly became available.

The UK government was I reckon well aware of what happened - the government at that time was led by Thatcher.

Blowing up a plane as a sacrifice to avoid the threat of a succession of revenge attacks for the Iranian plane (not Libyan as I said previously) is the sort of thing that the US government would do without ginving a damn about the victims, although they would make sure that no-one they didn't want to die was diverted away from it all. Bear in mind that certain governments will stop at nothing to get their own way - invading Grenada on some trumped up pretext, destabilising Chile, need I go on? It wouldn't surprise me, given Scotland's oil reserves, if there were plans afoot to stop Scotland becoming independent by fair means or foul if it came to that. As Iraq shows, killing people is nothing when it comes to power and oil.

"Any nation given the opportunity to regain its national sovereignty and which then rejects it is so far beneath contempt that it is hard to put words to it."

There is little doubt in official circles that an appeal would be successful, giving the Scottish Judicial system an extremely red face.

As I stated previously, those in the know DO believe in his probable guilt.

Guilty or not, he's genuinely very ill and his treatment and incarceration cost us megabucks. Best to let him go.

Agreed. Does it serve 'justice' to keep a terminally ill person imprisoned ? I think not. In pragmatic terms, the Libyans should now take responsibility for him.

If he's a convicted mass murderer then I would say yes.

You are correct. To that end Eck Salmond, a CIA agent has been put in to make the Essenpee look silly. Cuddly Ken McAskill has arranged the release of Megrahi ( real name bubba clinton ) who will secretly undergo ............

Naw fukkit this is silly. <_>

Please explain why Eck and Kenny the kunt have arranged the release of Megrahi.
