Statement About Tele Front Page

Was thinking that. It's not like it's some inaccessible attic.

Now, with that said...

The wording of the statement is ambiguous and unclear - because, as with everything else at Morton, an amateur has written it - so it's not clear whether or not anything was plugged in. But if it's true that there were a bunch of untested TVs and electric heaters plugged in then that is an irresponsible fire risk on the part of whoever did it. You simply can't do that in a wooden stand with limited exits where hundreds of people congregate. Hopefully whoever did this is severely punished.

I know it seems a bit over the top to say "someone plugged in a heater and that's terrible" but there is a reason we have these fire safety procedures, and it's that in old wooden structures, probably with old wiring systems, accidents can and do happen.

Aye, I fully agree, which makes it look even worse that nobody's bothered their arse to keep an eye on it for god knows how long. It's always an eye-opener when we get a wee peak at just how unprofessionally run Morton is, whether it's having a secret room or not asserting any kind of control over who says what to the local paper.

That said, anybody that puts an electric heater in a wee box in a wooden stand deserves a serious boot in the stones, but it's a shame for the guy who's been caught in the middle of all of this.

Between that and journalists previously having unfettered access to the players, I'm glad that there is at least a slow move towards making sure that, if something happens at Cappielow, management are aware of it. That is how it should be.

This. I know that the Tele will, naturally, have a far closer working relationship with the club than anyone else, but all media requests should be going through the club.

The only shocking thing about this story is that it's taken the club over ten years, since it was first brought to their attention, to address the abuse of this room by the people who used it.

A two bar electric fire that had the room roasting hot in the winter. (in a wooden stand)

A kettle so that they could make tea and coffee. (no electrical safeguards in place)

Now also includes the upgrade of a television.

Four people using the room on a regular basis only one of which was blind.

Supposedly also doing commentary on hospital radio for IRH which was not true as the feed had been cut off ever since the change of telecoms supplier at the hospital. The new supplier was not willing to pay for the feed.

It was pointed out that there were better technical solutions for commentary but that didn't interest those involved. No attempt was made to re-establish any "link" to IRH.

Bottom line is that this was the only "private" box in Cappielow which was being misused by the people using it and the club should have taken action long ago to put a stop to it.

At least more competent people are overseeing things now then, eh?

Does seem as those that were using the facility were, let’s say, making the most of it! Taking the **** probably more accurate.

New people in charge, has taken them a while to discover what was going on, fair enough. Club statement not the best, Tele article very poor.

Indeed. Maybe just me, and it was maybe misquoted, but the tone of the club's response as quoted in the Tele article didn't make them sound too great; their statement could probably do with being a bit less blunt too, although it's hardly the end of the world.

I'm fine with it because they're probably pissed off right now and have every reason to be. Chiefly with the Tele and its tinpot reporter, who if the details are correct only contacted the club yesterday for a comment, was informed that they were already in the process of resolving the issue but just didn't want hold back on the front page scoop of the decade!11111!111! anyway.

The Tele should be very careful about washing the club's dirty laundry in public like that. Not least given that is a ridiculously minor story compared to the decades of incompetent stewardship that the same newspaper and its top-quality investigative journalists have failed to ever raise questions about, so we're not exactly dealing with a bastion of integrity that just can't help telling truth to power. It's just an easy headline for what must be a ridiculously slow week even by that rag's low standards.

To a much lesser degree, I'm also baffled as to why running to the Tele pretty much immediately would be the rational response of any Morton fan when the club has already responded (!) regarding the issue. Yes it's an unfortunate situation, but your short-term inconvenience that is already being addressed is really not worthy of a front-page scandal spread in the local rag.

The site is supposed to be a place for the extended 'family' of Morton supporters - having an affinity with people that you don't know, because you share a love of your local football club. It's not supposed to be about point scoring and showing how 'clever' or 'funny' you are, or just being downright rude and offensive to people you don't know, because you can get away with it. Unfortunately, it seems the classic case of people who have little standing/presence in real life, use this forum as a way of making themselves feel as if they are something. It's sad, and I've said that before..

So, having been on Morton forums for about 15 years I guess, I've had enough... well done t*ssers, another Morton supporter driven away. You can all feel happy at how 'clever' you are

do any of them pay in

Probably not, so naturally running to the Tele when their wee perk was shut off.

Really surprised Iron Man didn't discover this, denying the club of THEIR rightful money, even making their own refreshments.

Just as well. He would have spunked another £100k on a biometric door entry system.

No they don’t, I see them regularly entering via the complimentary ticket gate, and, having personal experience of the reporter concerned, would be very wary of anything written by her!

The rest of the disabled fans pay in with a free assistant.

What is the commentary box? Who was using it and why did they change the locks? How does this box benefit a blind supporter?

I’d assume it’s quite a daunting experience so I think having a separate place to go helps. I know Ibrox, Parkhead etc have separate sections.

Where is the room?

Where is the room?

If it's the one I think it is, then it's in the top corner of the main stand on the Sinclair Street side. I'm presuming that's the one they're referring to anyway.

9SC absolutely seething that he pays £600 (circa) for a poxy club of about 10 folk whilst there's a room being used and abused for fun.

Glorious stuff.

9SC allegedly pays £600, that's £600 smackeroos folks, for a poxy club even though he's absolutely seething. Aye right.

Haven't read the Tele article but assume the one that has gone online is an updated one with quotes from McKinnon?

Bit that doesn't sit right, and was part of the problem, in the front page headline on the site and the first sentence calling it 'his' box.

No. It's not 'yours'.

So someone has ditched a whole load of electrical equipment in that room And changed the locks since the end of the season and noone thought this would be an issue?

That statement is total amateur hour stuff..

This.

I wasn't aware that this Morton Blind Supporters Association even existed until now, let alone had their own private room at Cappielow. I'm sure that there will be other Morton supporters out there which would benefit from such a club and facilities, which begs the question - why is this not better publicised by the club?
